whoever said that Oswalt would cost us picks is wrong. He has a team option and if the phils decline it then he wont cost us anything but $$$$$

I heard that he would probably be working on a year to year basis because he has been considering retirement. So maybe a 1 year deal worth 12 million. That could bridge the gap to the better FA market next offseason where we can let Oswalt go but get Hamels, Greinke, Cain, or Haren who are all better and younger. Also remember that the Nats had interest in Oswalt back in 2010 for the first third of the season when they were still in all little above .500 and he said that he liked our club and would waive his no-trade to come to us. We've only gotten better so I would imagine that interest this offseason would be mutual.

Why would number of years have any bearing on his ability to retire? A guy like Oswalt willing to go year to year screams Yankees or Red Sox or Phillies- teams that would love a high priced starter without the long term commitment

I just don't think he would want to commit to more than he feels necessary.

That might be the best fit, Wilson is likely gone so he'd add some veterany goodness to their rotations

Maybe. But if he just wants one more go at it, Texas would be a pretty good place to do it.

two priorities are frontline starting pitcher (ie, c.j. wilson) and OF that can play near top of line-up (ie, b.j. upton).

No, it hasn't. He under went arthroscopic surgery on his knee today or perhaps it was yesterday. Either way, it's his 5th surgery in the last 3 years. Indians saying they haven't decided whether or not to pick up the option.

No to Sizemore unless it's an absolute bargain. Bj upton or denard span would be great. I would like cj but I would be very cautious. If the bidding goes over $75 million I would back out. Sign Oswalt.

He said he would be willing to come here in 2010 and we have gotten better since then. We also have money which can be very attractive to sone people.
