Wait, why is Buehrle or EJax less of a risk than Wilson?

Buerhle could be a solid pickup for a few years.  I also still like Edwin Jackson.  Both those guys will cost about half as much as CJ Wilson and they'd be a lot less risky.

Buehrle isn't much better than Lannan. He walks a few less guys, but other than that, the two are pretty similar. No way would I want to add Buehrle, when we already have Lannan, who is a much better value. You don't need two similar guys like that in your rotation.

Jackson is better and younger, but is probably going to get a deal in the $12mill per range. Is he worth that? Absolutely not, but in a weak market, someone will give it to him. I hope it's not us. We aren't that desperate for pitching. We have legitimate candidates in house(along with our already established guys) and have a slew of big time guys that'll be up within two years. Overpaying for an average pitcher on a long term deal doesn't help us.

Wilson has only been a starter for a couple of years.  Jackson and Buerhle have much longer track records.  So less risk, but less reward, too.

Signing another pitcher would make me feel better about trading Lannan for help elsewhere.

I'm fairly certain I'd rather have my eyes gouged out with a spork, than watch Edwin Jackson for an entire season.

I'm going to start taking note of the LAC <> LANC attacks and mischaracterizations to see if I was right about who's the bigger bully.  If observation changes the observed, so much the better.

I feel the same way about CMW and Maya - those two can bore you to tears throwing a no hitter.

The Nats offered Zach Grienke a $100M contract to waive his No-Trade. To claim the Nats don't have the resources to offer the same amount to Wilson is unfounded.

Do we have a tracking mechanism?  It would be nice to find out who hijacks threads more frequently.

I see that as a bonus. He's only started for two years, so his arm is fresh. In the past two years he's put up one year of good numbers, and one year of all star numbers. He's 30 years old, but obviously takes care of himself. I could see him as that guy who pitches well for the next five years. He only throws 90 or 91 so its not like he's dependent on velocity to succeed.

Lets just forget that happened, mkay? The Nats also offered Storen, Zimmermann and Espinosa.

Rizzo has been quoted saying that his priorities this offseason are to find a frontline starter to "let everyone else slide into place" and to add an elite outfielder.  First off, last year Rizzo said that his priority was to aquire a frontline starter and he ended up with a deal in place fo Greinke showing a willingness to trade away prospects to get the right pieces.  In the same vein what do you think think he means by "elite" centerfielder.  Do you think he could be considering Matt Kemp who by the way was rumored to have the nats interest last fall.  I think one guy that we could get would be gio gonzalez due to the fact that the A's are looking to deal a pitcher and he would fit perfectly between Stras and Zimm.  Also we could trade them Derek Norris who is a high OBP guy which would be to Billy Beane's liking.  Lastly I would like to ask what you guys think.  Do you think we will get our bat and our pitcher and who do you think we will target?

Rizzo also said his top priority at the deadline was a CF'er. That didn't go well.

you don't get what you want every single time but Rizzo has shown a willingness to go out and get what he wants.

You can't judge laroche on a month before he got injured.  Marquis was also injured but came back and pitched great for us this year.

I can judge both on their careers and know they're second division starters.

I wouldn't say great, but he pitched as well as we could have expected him to when we signed him.

Marquis would be good enough to be at least a 4 starter on the yankees who happen to be a playoff caliber team.  Also I don't think you would feel that way about LaRoche if he put up a .275 20 80 line like he is capable of.

Let Laroche start the year and hopefully he plays well enough to be traded then move Morse back to 1B and hopefully Harper is ready to come up after the trade deadline.

Harper - LF
Werth - RF
FA or trade - CF

Morse - 1B
Desmond - SS
Espi - 2B
Zim - 3B

Just my guess what happens.

That is why I think the front office does not want pujols or prince.  They want a leadoff man and moving laroche and putting morse back at first is the way to do that.  Though I still expect the nats to make a run at fielder becuase he makes so much sense in our lineup between zimm and morse.

I'd be shocked if they made a run at Prince.  Rizzo loves defense and moving Morse to LF and putting Prince at 1B makes us worse defensively.

We also have Harper coming up so we'd have Morse, Harper & Werth in the outfield.  I don't trust Werth in CF and I don't like Morse in LF.  That's why I just don't see Rizzo going after Prince as much as I would love to see him in between Zim & Morse
