We'll see , Cole is my guy next to harper, we'll see how it goes. But we can all agree on that the depth in the system is looking great.

AJ Cole is on the same path as Shelby Miller(ranked in the top 20 in prospects) when he was in LowA last year. Cole is going to be one of the top prospects in all baseball in no time.

yup

I also have a feeling that Purke doesn't sign.
He's not on a Cape Cod roster yet. If he doesn't pitch, it gets even dicier because we'll have little reason to offer him the big bucks he demands.

GCL Nats have two minor league free agents

Jason Smith ... http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/yb/160156866

Wes Schill ... http://www.brazossports.com/localroundup/Local-Roundup2011-06-17T06-51-40

Schill played for the same university that produced Randoph Oduber (in Hagerstown) and Wander Nunez (unassigned) from the 2010 draft ... Western Oklahoma

Why so much angst about who is or isn't going to sign at this point? From last year, we know that we're not cheap (Maya, Cole, Ray, and Oduber) and we're not dumb. Let's trust the FO, watch the games, and enjoy the ride!

Well, Maya is in the dumb column.

To me, Maya isn't in the "didn't work out column". Right now, he looks like he's not going to be worth the money. But at the time, I feel he was a worthwhile risk. In the same way that Jayson Werth was an overpay to say "we're serious now", I feel that Maya is the same thing. They had him pegged as a 4/5 starter I think and he's looking like a 7th starter. He's shown flashes. He needs to figure out how to get hitters out at AAA.

I'm certainly scared that he's AAAA or that he won't be able to figure out in the window that we need him to figure it out in.

His attitude is awful, that's what gets me. I still like his offspeed pitches sometimes. But, it's a good point, and thanks for coming back and posting!

What the hell is milb.tv doing? When I try to go to the Syracuse game (now tied 5-5) a get a message saying that I need to be a milb.tv subscriber to watch the game, which I am because I can watch every other game...and they charged my credit card LAST MONTH!

BASTARDS!

Because they put him on the ML roster and he stinks up the joint.

GCL play finally under way.

Three hit batters within the first two innings. Sounds like high school ball all over again.

In good news, Nathan Karns, an early round pick from the 2009 draft is finally making his pro debut for the Nats.

Through 2 IP, 1H, 2BB, 1K, 2HBP

That's a very Latin American lineup they have going there today

Trey Karlen is the only drafted bat I see in the box score

Yes. Nothing official ever came out, but I believe it was a shoulder injury

Flores drives him in on a fielders choice.  Chiefs lead 2-1 in the 7th.  Detwiler has been very good, fyi.
