I realize that their numbers against righties are about the same, but all these righties are still scaring me.  I would go with Laroche solely based on the fact that he is left handed.

that seems like faulty logic to me.

Lee this year, Fielder next year is my hope. I do like LaRoche, though.

Why Fielder?  Would you really pay upwards of $20 million a year over 7 years for a guy with a -7.8 UZR/150?  He's the next big papi, but I wouldn't want him on a NL club.

The only think I can find in favor of signing LaRoche is that he's left handed.  Other than that, everything seems to lean towards Lee.

this!  Lee's put up better numbers against RHP than LaRoche.  Maybe the only other argument is age/durability given Lee was hurt last year.

Sign Laroche for thee years, and don't worry about 1B until someone better rises from the minors.

Then quickly sign Pavano, even though he is not a lead starting pitcher. Just better than the other FAs. It's just money, and the team has money.

A trade will require that the Nats give up players, and they don't have any to spare. At least none that another team wants...Morgan and Maxwell????

I really think the plan is that both Bernadina and Morgan will play against righthanders and there are your lefties in the lineup. Against lefties we go with an all righty lineup. So who needs another lefty.  The hope is that the Bernadina  power we saw a glimpse of then disappeared will reappear.

I wonder who is holding up who, because it looks like the Nationals and Orioles have been in talks with both of them and one is going one place and the other the other. The Padres might still be an option, but for a player trying to rebuild value that isn't the best fit, and I think Lee could really help out the Diamondbacks with his play and as a leader that could help guys like Drew and Upton harness their potential.

Gibson, Lou Brock, and Julian Javier.  1967 was the first time I had my heart ripped out.

Who is replacing Pena in TB?  That might be a good fit for Lee unless they ahve another hot shot prospect ready to go.

Tampa say they have to cut payroll. I would imagine Lee = Pena in that department.

Ok, you're excused.

Groat was an major player for the Johnny Keane Cards, which is about the time I started following more than just the AL.

Speaking of Groat, who I remember as a Pirate, did any of you guys see game 7 of the 1960 WS on MLB Network last week? It was great.

Bobby Shantz getting 3 at bats as a relief pitcher! Just seeing his curve was worth watching the game.
