I really hope Lee doesn't decide to go to a contender if LaRoche goes to the O's.  I have a bad feeling about this.

Maybe we swing a bullpen arm for Loney if we don't get Lee.  Still not a huge fan of Loney but he seems another 'Rizzo-type' player.

I would actually offer LaRoche 2/16 happily, but I don't know if he'd prefer 2/16 or 3/16.

Unless he's not major league quality in 3 years, you take 2/16 obviously.

I have a sneaky hunch that the Padres could get back into the Lee derby.  With O-Dog and Bartlett, it looks like they aren't quite as broke as everyone thought.  They are going to have at least 4 pre-arb starting position players (Venable/Blanks, Headley, Hundley, Maybin), plus Latos and Richard making minimum.  Ludwick will be about $5MM, as are the middle infield starters.  Bell will be $8 - 10MM as a 2d year arbitration guy, and Harang is another $4MM.  That's less than $30MM for veterans.  If they come in at $45MM, they could afford the rest of the roster on MLB minimum and sign Lee for a year at $8MM.  That said, the better move is to limp along with cheap signings like perhaps a Hawpe / Cantu platoon until A. Rizzo or Blanks takes first.

Yeah well that would suck.

Rizzo you need to get Lee now.  Loney and Kotchman are not the answer.

I don't have anyone on ignore.

If we end up with Loney and platoon him with Morse, what outfielders are still out there that could take the pressure off of Bernie in LF?  I saw an article about Ankiel recently but he hasn't shown much in recent years.  Burgess is nowhere near ready.  Hawpe, at least in the OF, doesn't fit the 'Rizzo mold.'

"xxxxxxxx has me on ignore" is a running joke here.

I don't like a Morse platoon at 1B.  We need a legitimate first baseman.

All of those guys are league average or nearly at this point in their careers. A 1B and a LF are needed, really, unless Corey Brown pans out.

Yeah - that article says they're 'closing in on signing LaRoche.'  Not sure how to interpret that, but I guess it's one step closer to actually getting him after making the offer.

I don't understand a world in which Pena gets 1/10 and LaRoche gets 3/16.  Is Pena that good defensively?  Is he that swell of a guy?
