This morning in the shower I realized that if the Cardinals can't afford Albert Pujols, the Lerners could totally afford to offer him 8 years and $256 million.

So I think we should do a one year deal and then offer Albert Pujols 8/256.
Yes, that is $32 million a year.

it would be interesting to look at the economics, if Strasburg was worth an extra $1 million in revenue per start, then what could Albert bring in 2012 that would off-set a massive commitment?  Sign Wainwright and Albert and head into 2012 with Harper/Strasburg and you are looking at a pretty interesting year.

One can dream, right?

I'm fully expecting STL to lock up Pujols.  I'm not even going to entertain the thought so as to restrain my imagination from wild flights of fancy that have such a small chance of happening

that said, Zim, Pujols, Werth, Morse, Harper all in the same lineup in 2012 and beyond would be sick and you could ease Harper into that #7 spot in the lineup with little pressure to be the man right away...

I would actually be upset if Pujols left the Cardinals.

It will be interesting to see what happens if both Pujols and Fielder hit the market next year.  Basically, all the big markets have 1B locked up for the next few years except the Cubs.  If Pujols hits the market, I'd bet the farm Rizzo puts a huge offer in front of him, I just can't see the Cards letting him walk, though.

If he left the Cardinals, the city of St. Louis might spontaneously combust.

So now the O's are turning their attention back to Lee. Awesome.

I'm getting anxious to get something done at 1B.

Well, if the O's are bidding against themselves, then it's slowing everything down. It's Angelos' fault!

Just came over to post that. "Talks between Adam LaRoche and the Orioles have not progressed and the team has renewed discussions with Derrek Lee, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun."

Maybe that means we've made the winning offer on LaRoche. I hope. I really hope.

I definitely don't see Lee going to Baltimore.  He would look so out of place there.  If they can't even convince LaRoche to go there with his best friend Reynolds already there and a 3 yr contract on the table, I highly doubt they can convince Lee to play there.

I'm not sold on LaRoche.  He strikes out almost as much as Dunn and has not nearly the same offensive punch.  His defense better be really really good.

I do love that the O's are still trying to give out Confederate money.  Haha.  Eat it, Angelos.

Same, but

if talks have stalled between the O's and LaRoche, maybe we could get LaRoche on a shorter contract. I would be okay with LaRoche for one or two years. I'd still prefer Lee.

One of the reasons I gave up on LaRoche were his demands for the three year deal, which the Orioles had met.

The only think I can find in favor of signing LaRoche is that he's left handed.  Other than that, everything seems to lean towards Lee.

Agree with this.  He has the 'veteran leadership' thing that Rizzo loves.  He looks more like an athlete.  If he signed Werth to play for us at 38 yrs old, he shouldn't have an issue with Lee at 35.

Oh and Lee's better at baseball.

Lee this year, Fielder next year is my hope. I do like LaRoche, though.
