Dunn is in the AL (we don't play the White Sox next season, right?). Werth is no longer on the Phillies and whooping Nats pitchers (.296/.385/.559 against the Nats in his career). Werth is a Nat.

Things could be a lot worse.

Yes, we do, actually.  We go to Chicago for an inter-league series in late June.

"We think he's going to be a big piece of the puzzle," Rizzo said. "We certainly have more holes to fill. We have more work to do, and we're certainly aggressively going on from here and beyond."

They need too. This team needs pitching and a first baseman. Get it done. Stay aggressive and get some big pieces via FA/trade.

What would you consider a comparable package to what the Sox offered for AG?  Pitcher, 1B and outfield (and PTBNL)?

Would Lannan, Morrero and JP Ramirez get it done?

What do you think we'd have to package to get Greinke?

And a 2B and a SS and a CF and a C.  Other than that, we're in great shape.  :?

Ben suggested at the end of the season that the local media guessed Greinke would cost Desmond, Norris, and Detwiler, while Garza would cost Marrrero and Burgess.

I would definitely do the 2nd deal. I'm not high at all on Marrero and Burgess. Marrero caliber players are available in free agency all the time.

The Jays just traded Shawn Marcum to the Brewers. Don't understand that.

"Even after shelling out $126MM over seven years for Jayson Werth, the Nationals are still looking to make a splash in free agency.  The club is still in on pitcher Carl Pavano, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports."

How quickly perceptions can change:

"nats, still working, looking at pavano to aid rotation. twins want to keep him, tho might be hard to compete with #nationals $."

Fudge, he was on my AL fantasy team at $7.  At least I have CJ Wilson at $4.

Would have loved to have gotten Marcum here.

Friday = slap ourselves silly

I was at work when I got an email from the nats saying they got Werth, later I came home checked that it was a 7 year deal. Altough I understand we have to over pay to get good free agents, I just think we outbid our selves. There were rumors going around that no one was even going to offer him 6 years, how do we jump to 7 years? Kind of puzzling to me. That being said I would like for the Nats do more. All we need is a first baseman and maybe a starter other than that we could be solid. Im really high on both Desmond and Esponisa so we should focus on the other 2 postions i mentioned.

I'm curious what the general sentiment as far as getting another arm is here.  Would you all be happy if we landed only Pavano, and not Greinke or Garza or Longshot Lee?
