I don't even like Werth I just like what the move means.

It means Dunn really wasn't a financial decision and it means this offseason might actually live up to it's promise.  They have to find a way to get pitching now.

Or it could mean they're grasping now because they realize not signing Dunn was a mistake.

Werth >> Dunn. Sorry, it's true. No picks gone, right? This is a masterstroke. 7 years of a CF quality guy you can 100% play in the corners, with power. Now get us a pitcher, Mike!

Seven years is ridiculous but what else are we going to do? We needed a player like this for a few years. I'm glad we got him. Move onto pitching and acquiring a first baseman please. I can't wait for these winter meetings.

Which reminds me:  Adrian Gonzalez is available again.  He has a glove and he's obviously a great hitter.  I'd really like to see the Nats at least mentioned as inquiring.  If nothing else I want to hear that he doesn't want to come here or they are concerned about his shoulder, otherwise it doesn't make sense not to try.

7 years on December 4 is a hell of a grasp.  They've known Dunn would be a free agent for 2 years, they didn't change their minds after 3 days.

Supposedly it was the Sawx or nothing. Mark Reynolds or bust!

I thought that it was well established that Rizzo didn't want Dunn, regardless of the price, we could have kept him for a minimal raise over what he was making.

Let's trade for Greinke. Give them Desmond and co. I'm on a big name high right now. Let's get everyone.

HIRE EVERYONE!

I know and I was in that camp.  I'd be lying if I didn't admit I'd started to wonder though.

We can always trade him to the Cubs when he starts declining.

Now we have to get a lefty bat to play first. Zimmerman-LaRoche-Werth-Willingham would be a very nice 3-6.

According to a blog, with 'sources' close to the Nats.... we're about to sign Werth.

:lmao: :lmao:

What Knorr said

Haha, you guys got your asses kicked on this one.  Mike DOES have sources, and he just proved them with the scoop.

He joined WNFF earlier this year, though I can't remember him posting since his introductory post.

Would you rather keep Morse or Willingham?

Morse only because he is 3 years younger

I think Willingham would be worth more in trade, so I'd keep Morse.

Hey Tom, who's the guy who DIDN'T get his ass kicked on this story?

Oh, yeah:

That said, the fact that there has been TOTAL silence regarding the Nationals and Werth suggests to me that it might actually happen.

It helps I never believed LAC.

Yep, he owned us. :worship: I like that guy even more now.  I felt bad about laughing at it because he introduced me to Eastbound and Down (awesomely hilarious show) via his blog.

If I were Rizzo, this would be the remainder of my offseason plan:
1. Sign Carlos Pena or Adam LaRoche, whoever is (cough) cheaper.
2. Sign Brandon Webb to an incentive-heavy one-year deal (base $2, $8 in incentives, something like that).
3. Re-sign Chien-Ming Wang for $1-2 mil
4. Prospects for pitching

Agreed.

That said, I don't get the folks floating the idea of Willingham as part of a Greinke deal.  The Royals should not want an aging LF/DH with only one year of control.  Burgess would be more useful to them (almost / rhetorical exaggeration).

I'd prefer a lesser deal for a Garza.  TB would take Willingham, I think, as a DH then for picks.

With the collapse of the Adrian Gonzalez deal and the signing of Werth, all it would take right now for Willingham to Boston for Anderson etc. . . more attractive to them would be if they bow out / Lose the Crawford chase.

Finally, for LF if Willingham left, I'm thinking Damon is more attractive b/c I think he has the lefty pull pop and has leadoff skills.

The Nats are a longshot to land Lee, GM Mike Rizzo told MLB.com's Bill Ladson (via Twitter).
