According to a blog, with 'sources' close to the Nats.... we're about to sign Werth.

http://natslooser.blogspot.com/2010/12/ears-open-people-big-news-coming.html

Maybe they meant "come in second" to signing Werth...

 hopefully but blogs are usually the thing I don't believe in. It always reminds me of that guy that came over and wanted hits on his website. Remember he said he knew we'd sign Tex? or some crap like that.

Might just be writing that because he has nothing else to lose and if it happens he can be the guy that says "I told you so!"

This guy is smarter he used two teams

The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reports that the Red Sox and Tigers appear to be the most interested in Jayson Werth, but neither team is willing to offer the six years Werth wants.

Werth wants a 6-year deal. He'll turn 32 next year. Would Rizzo really give him that?

Considering the ridiculous contracts flying around this offseason, he may have to.

I can't imagine them giving Werth 6 years when they balked at 4 years to Dunn.

It would be better than nothing, but I'm not getting my hopes up.  And yeah, given their other moves I cannot see them giving that much money to Werth.

Another source reporting Werth close to signing with the Nats, according to MLBTR:

If true, a good start to the offseason.

Seven year deal concerns me, but we'll cross that road when we come to it.  Frankly, at this point I'd rather be in the position of being potentially being saddled with a lousy contract years down the road than the position of not having any good players.

GREAT news.  They've earned my patience now.  Signing Werth on 12/4 is not a cheap or an appeasement move.  It almost has to signal more spending.

eh, I'm not a huge Werth fan.

.270   .375   .463   .838 and only 9 homers away from Citizens....

better than nothing i guess, but i would have rather pony up the cash and given it to crawford.  That being said and we can still add Pena, I will start to feel better about Dunn

Hopefully. I'm more excited about the fact that the Lerners decided to pay for a pickup like this. Holy crap.

Let's get LaRoche and add a pitcher or trade for Greinke! Hell yea!! I still miss Dunn.

Another source reporting Werth close to signing with the Nats, according to MLBTR:

I suspect that MLB Trade Rumors is using Mike Harris as their source, so it's just a repeat of the same info.  As far as sources go, Harris is reliable enough, he does make a living in sports journalism, so his reputation is of value to him.  Of course a free agent signing isn't like a trade where there is honor among GMS, Werth's agent could very well be using the Nats, so even Rizzo can't be certain that the deal is about to be signed.

Seven years is ridiculous but what else are we going to do? We needed a player like this for a few years. I'm glad we got him. Move onto pitching and acquiring a first baseman please. I can't wait for these winter meetings.

As I was typing, one kid stepped on another's toe, then Werth get's signed, and I'm still posting about whether the source is legit.

Dunn would have been the better option.  Signing Dunn would have given the team much more flexibility.

I don't even like Werth I just like what the move means.

It means Dunn really wasn't a financial decision and it means this offseason might actually live up to it's promise.  They have to find a way to get pitching now.
