It pretty much turned out to be Burnett for Hanrahan. Pretty decent trade for both sides - Hanrahan has done OK in Pittsburgh but he needed to move on from DC. He was Brian Bruney before there ever was a Brian Bruney.

Speaking of Bruney, after all the lentils, brown rice, fruit, and vegetables yesterday and high fiber cereal this AM, I was reminded of one the quote of the year nominees.

I figured there'd be more spleen venting about Milledge over here, but perhaps you guys spent all that when you sent him to the Pirates. The general consensus on the White Sox message boards is that this is a low risk/potential high return deal. Meh. Seeing as Milledge has warn out his welcome on three teams before the age of 25, I won't hold my breath. i don't see him on the roster, minor league or otherwise, after we break camp in the spring.

Like I said... I was surprised how solid he was against LHP.

Maybe he'll find a role with the Sox.

But, I doubt it.

Has enough talent to play better than he has, but is generally lazy with poor baseball instincts.

As I suspected. I have buds who think he's a ready candidate to be the 4th outfielder. Please. We'll be lucky to get Andruw Jones out of him.

Andruw Jones will be much better than Milledge next season. Watching Milledge in the outfield, you almost get the impression that he has some kind of depth perception problem because he can't seem to tell how far or hard a ball has been hit. I wouldn't trust him at all in CF. Maybe he'd be OK in LF but he doesn't have the bat for it.

Jones at 25% is still better than most MLB OF'ers.

Fixed. Jones is no longer a starting caliber player, however, he is an exceptional bench player.

I meant defensively.

Offensively, he can only hit left handers at this point in his career.

I don't know about that. All the years of eating his way into shape has taken its toll. I don't think he can be successful in the OF with his weight anymore.

Would it surprise you to know that no matter how fat he has gotten, he's still yet to post a negative UZR in his career? That includes 2008 (0.4), 2009 (3.3) and 2010 (0.7).

I thought Jones would have been a good fit here if we had to stick Morse at 1B.

Jones might even have been a better fit for this season than Morse in LF for us.

Here's a blast from the past quite a few might not even remember. I had to double check he played for the Nats before posting, but I was 99% sure I remembered that name when I saw it on MLB Trade Rumors. Ryan Drese. The last time he pitched in the majors was for the Nats. That should be pretty telling/damning in itself. 2006. He just signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles for 2011. A bizarre signing if ever there was one. Out of the majors for half a decade, was forgettable that half decade ago, and the Orioles have even the remotest of interest in him? Either they're more hard up than I thought for pitching or he's still got something left in the tank. Much as I find the former hard to believe to the extent Drese is possibility, I know theres no way it's the latter.

How could anyone forget Drese? He pitched 8 innings of shut-out ball against the Angels in the final game of the series in 2005. Def one of the most memorable Nats games to date. Heady times, those were.
