Here's a blast from the past quite a few might not even remember. I had to double check he played for the Nats before posting, but I was 99% sure I remembered that name when I saw it on MLB Trade Rumors. Ryan Drese. The last time he pitched in the majors was for the Nats. That should be pretty telling/damning in itself. 2006. He just signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles for 2011. A bizarre signing if ever there was one. Out of the majors for half a decade, was forgettable that half decade ago, and the Orioles have even the remotest of interest in him? Either they're more hard up than I thought for pitching or he's still got something left in the tank. Much as I find the former hard to believe to the extent Drese is possibility, I know theres no way it's the latter.

ORIOLES FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!!! WTF R NATS DOING! RYAN DRESE!!!!!!!OMG!!!ORIOLES BEST OFFSEASON EVAR!!!!!NATS R STOOOOPID!

Dead man walking sidearmer

NEW YORK -- The Yankees have assigned another locker in their Spring Training clubhouse, signing right-handed reliever Luis Ayala to a Minor League contract with an invitation to camp.

Ayala, 33, has not pitched in the Major Leagues since 2009, when he was with the Twins and Marlins. He pitched well this winter in his native Mexico, including during the Caribbean Series.

A baseball source confirmed the agreement, which was first reported on Wednesday by FOXSports.com.

You're either repressing them or you're just more fortunate than the rest of us.  :?  I remember his first 3 or 4 outings being pretty decent and then he turned back to absolute crap.

He was pretty damn good until the elbow just fell apart on him.  Heavy sinker, really good pitch.

If y'all watch "Psych" Season 2 final episode, the one with the Egyptian mummy, you'll no doubt catch a rather startling shout-out to a former Nat. Shawn Spencer draws a stick figure of one of our outfielders into a diagram. It gave me a jolt.

I always thought he was damaged when the Nationals got him.

Damn, some teams have all the luck. Trade for Gonzalez, sign Crawford, shut down Bergmann.

Easy a lot of people on the WNFF act like every move Bowden made was terrible.  Just not true I'm not saying he was the greatest but he was trying to do something in a crap MLB/Owner situation.

Maybe, but I still think that Kasten/Bowden are the ones most responsible for the utter lack of talent this team has put on the field for so long.

Not trolling... ;) But what part as assistant GM did Rizzo have in all of those moves?

He's been here for quite a while... a lot of that time was spent under Bowden.

I'm not aware of the full extent of an assistant GM's responsibilities, so I cannot answer that, however, I think it's probably a safe guess that the team president and the GM were the ones responsible for the big decisions.

Then there's how bad the 2006 draft was and the improvement from the 07 draft on.

Or it could just some random variation that happens in 1 year sample size. The 2006 draft wasn't all that good, the best player the nats didn't take might have been ian kennedy or joba.

Gascanrahan named Pirates closer :lmao:

I don't care what his numbers were last year, this guy is truly garbage. The Pirates will see this very quickly after they are buried in the standings after several blown saves by the end of April. :lmao:

Yes Bowden had an occasional good move...but please...there is nothing that can excuse Bowden for the horrific job he did here.
