Marlins Mike Stanton comes about 2 feet short of hitting the first ball ever out of PETCO - left center power alley.

aaaa guy, destroys the minors, struggles after he gets called up

He's a backup at worst. He's a catcher, not a LF.

Adrian Gonzalez committed a base-running blunder so incomprehensible it even confused Yahoo and Fox Sports South FL:

Quote
  Bottom 9th: San Diego
- R. Webb flied out to left
- M. Stairs hit for R. Webb
- J. Hairston Jr. singled to shallow center
- C. Headley ground rule double to left, J. Hairston Jr. to third
- A. Gonzalez singled to shallow right, J. Hairston Jr. and C. Headley scored
- L. Nunez relieved R. Nolasco
- A. Gonzalez to second on wild pitch
- M. Tejada singled to right center, A. Gonzalez to third
- N. Hundley grounded into fielder's choice, A. Gonzalez scored, M. Tejada out at second
- W. Venable grounded out to second

3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors
Florida 6, San Diego 4
Yahoo Sports-Play by Play

Gonzalez was at 3B and Tejada at 1B when Hundley hit a ground ball to 3B.  The Marlins unquestionably were going to sacrifice the run on the play, never even looking at Gonzalez on the play, and attempted a 5-4-3 GDP, but Hundley beat it out at 1B.  Gonzalez inexplicably stayed at 3B.  On the runners on diamond display on the TV screen, it showed Gonzalez had scored as well, and it took about 30 seconds for Fox Sports South FL to realize it mistake and show a runner at 3B.  But, the fact is he never advanced his lead on the play and instead returned to 3B as if he was tagging up on a sac fly, never scoring.  The final score was 6-3.  Yahoo did finally fix its box score this morning, but their play-by-play was not changed and disagrees with its box score.

I'm no scoring expert, but I find it confusing how Matt Stairs could hit for R. Webb after Webb has already flied out.

The Milwaukee Brewers underscored their commitment to Corey Hart by agreeing to a three-year contract extension with the power-hitting outfielder Monday.

Hart will receive $26.5 million over the next three seasons, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Hart, the subject of multiple trade rumors before the July 31 deadline, is having one of the best seasons in his career, hitting .288 with 23 home runs and 72 RBIs.

The extension covers Hart's final year of arbitration eligibility and his first two years of free agency.

His 23 home runs are one fewer than his career high of 24, which he set in 2007. His career mark for RBIs is 91, which he achieved in 2008.

He was named to this year's National League All-Star team on the players' ballot and started the game in place of injured Atlanta Braves rookie Jason Heyward. Hart also was a member of the 2008 NL All-Star team.

Hart, 28, is a career .275 hitter with 90 homers and 332 RBIs.

Take a lessen Lerners/Kasten/Rizzo.  You keep and reward your good players.  Even a small market team, which the Nationals aren't, know this.  And you pay the market price for the player.  You don't try to cheap out!

Of course, since this extension covers his final year of arbitration plus two years of free agency, this more of Willingham thing than a Dunn thing.

Saul Rivera got released by Arizona. He must really suck now if he can't stick in Arizona's bullpen.

amazing how many double digit-1 blowouts there have been the past week.

White Sox are destroying the Tigers right now.

I was reading the Os recap on ESPN, and couldn't help but notice the attendance. 16,700 for a debut of their brand new manager, a manager that's actually managed in the majors before (a rarity for the angelblOs to do, hire someone with experience) and a hope of being a very small start to turning things around. Oh, and they were facing the Angels, a team that's a decent draw. They aren't the Royals, at the very least. Yeah, it's a weeknight, but I would have expected at least 20k. I cannot wait to see their attendance next season when what few ST holders they had don't renew. It'll make the worst days at RFK and Nats Park seem like an NFL game by comparison.

So while this certainly wasn't a good night for us, we can take solace in the fact the Os drew so few.

He was the golden boy. The one you could count on, the one was wasn't juicing. He was gonna erase Bonds and save baseball. Instead he's a joke, cheats on his wife, pouts, and is basically scum. I'd like to see him out of baseball forever.

Adam Dunn is a role model - ARod is a chump.

I'm not saying he's going to get the nicest guy award, but he's a helluva baseball player.
