The Mets are looking to move one of their extra catchers, either Santos or Chris Coste, and are looking to add "major league-ready triple-A pitching depth." Aren't we all...
Shairon Martis for Chris Coste?

Guzman is going lose it. I wonder if he asks for his release or just starts pouting in corner.

There are 8M reasons why Guzman wont ask for his release.

There is this paradox in pride--it makes some men ridiculous, but prevents others from becoming so.

While I concede it is less likely than a pouting or hyper-competitive Guzzie, he still could pull a Alfonso Soriano or Odalis Pérez.

In Saturday's game, the defense played spectacular behind Marquis.

Is spectacular a card game or a song?

OTOH, some sort of buy out in exchange for his release (we'll give you $6m is you take a hike and don't bother us /hell no I won't go / ok, so there's the pine where you'll sit for a year and retire next / on second thought, . . . ) make sense both ways.

Bernadina is back in the mix.

http://therocket.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/03/bernie_has_chance_to_be_right.html

Quote
Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said that outfielder Roger Bernadina has a chance to be on the 25 man-roster to start the season.

It helps that Bernadina is on a hot streak and has seen his batting average climb to .289 with two RBIs entering Saturday's action against the Braves. Bernadina shortened his swing at the suggestion of hitting coach Rick Eckstein and it has paid nice dividends for the left-handed hitter.

Because of Bernadina's success of late, the Nationals may not be in a rush to acquire a right fielder.

Quote
"Roger is playing very well. He is really making a case for himself for that right field spot. He is running the bases well," Riggleman said. "Rick Eckstein has really had an impact on him, especially the last 10 days. Roger has made a little adjustment at the plate. He took that to batting practice and it immediately took off [into a game].

Putting a few things together, Bernardina in right in a platoon with Morse might explain Harris on the market.  I had thought one of Bernardina / Max would make it as a CF backup and pinch runner, so Bernardina is very likely to be on the squad already. Now that he's on the squad, they can look at him at a semi-regular spot.

I still hate this. Why not make Bernadina learn to hit lefties?

In Bernadina's breakout season in the minors he was crushing lefties all season.

Sorry, righties.

To be fair, Bernadina did struggle with lefties for a while in his career.  He seems to be fine with righties too, his career line in the minors against RHP is .281/.362/.420.  I was just pointing out that he could do fine against both if things clicked for him at the highest level.

Then why have a platoon just to please JCA? Play Bernadina and pray.

I'm sure Bernie is going to force himself into the lineup, eventually.  The problems is that he does not have great power, he has changed his swing twice in the last two years, and is still adjusting to the league.

Maybe I'm trying a bit too hard to take some round pegs and fit them into my preconceived square hole.  Sure, if Bernardina can hit lefties, let him play. I just have some doubt it will happen.  I like Morse, too, think he can bring acceptable defense with good offense out of a platoon.  If I'm obsessed about platooning the outfielders, it's only because I think it gives guys with little major league experience more of a chance to succeed.  If RB doesn't need the training wheels, I'm fine with that.

I can't freaking believe I'm saying this, but I think the Nats should give the final spot in the rotation to Scott Olsen and just keep Garrett Mock on call.

I feel like Mock has so little upside, and Olsen made a good case for himself today.
