Doesn't anyone realize how crappy Livan was last year?

Great... he can consistently put up a 5+ ERA. So can a ton of other pitchers out there.

The saddest part of all is with or without Livan this is the best rotation this team has had in five years.

Not to mention he hasn't pitched the highly coveted 200+ innings since 2007 and has been on four different teams in the past two years. I am really hoping one of the other guys like Chico, Stammen or Martis beat him out. I'd rather see those guys pitch anyways.

Could you imagine if everything went perfectly, I mean, wet-dream perfectly for the team and injuries? You could have a rotation like this by the end of June:

Wang
Marquis
Olsen
Lannan
Strasburg

Which is why I'm confused why Zuckerman said he might be the #3 starter.

Is there really no pitcher that could beat out Livo for the spot?

I can't say I'd want Scott Olsen as a part of any perfect-world rotation.  Detwiler at his ceiling would be much better.

No, he doesn't consistently put up the 5+ ERA.  He VERY inconsistently does this.  As I observed, 6 of his 8 starts were quality starts, while the other two were el-stinkos.  That's a lot different from giving up a consistent 5+ runs per 9 innings, game after game.

This this and this again.

"How can you be so obtuse?  Is it deliberate?"

I'd prefer we have a rotation that leaves no room for Livan, but good grief there are some haters in this bunch.  We could do a whole lot worse.

I'd have to disagree. When Olsen is on, he is on. Speaking of the "perfect world" again, I'd rather have Perfect Olsen and his experience than Perfect Detwiler. Aside from a few gems, I'm not sure why everyone was sold on Detwiler breaking into the Opening Day rotation to begin with. He would have been competing among the Balesters, Martins and Martis'.

Or is Martis plural "Marti?"

I'm not hating... I'm just wondering aloud how much use you can continue to get off a re-tread? Eventually he's going to be worse than a replacement level player.

Its idle speculation at this point, of course, but if he ends up starting 15+ games for the Nats... its probably not a good thing.

I don't think anyone disagrees with that, and hopefully we'll never have to find out.

Hot Dog, that is a money rotation. It could happen, we just have to see when May comes here to see if it does.

Too bad perfect world and Nationals cannot coexist. This team is cursed to be doomed by injuries and torn labrums from foul balls off the foot.

"Perfect Olsen" is an illusion.  The last time he pitched well and had good stuff was his rookie season, and even then he was similar to Lannan.

Detwiler could be absolutely dominant (think Clayton Kershaw) because of the way he keeps the ball in the park.

That's probably an exaggeration b/c Kershaw throws harder and can rack up more K's, but the peripherals (K/BB, HR/9) have the potential to be very similar.

I thought it was a particularly good zing. Sorry, this is the first week in a long time I've been on the WNFF for an extended period. I'm a bit rusty. ;)
