We signed a minor league deal with Livan

That's much better. I was expecting a major league deal.

In all honesty I would rather see Livan than Mock. Neither is part of the future and neither has talent above not very good, but I have more confidence in Livan getting outs.

last resort. ugh. if he makes the 25 man roster we are screwed

 Don't hang yourself over it. He eats innings. If he manages to win a spot in the rotation then good for him. Lets just hope its not because our other competing pitchers hand it over suck.

Forgot to put: I don't want him in the rotation over the young guys like Balaster/Stammen/Mock/Olsen. I hope they are a huge impact.

I'm confident of one ability that Livan has:

The ability to make NotLD, ASSCLOWN, and a few others whine and cry like a little girl with a scraped knee every single time his name comes up.

The Nationals  Ivan Rodriguez, after catching right-hander Stephen Strasburg's bullpen session on Tuesday, turned immediately to general manager Mike Rizzo.

"This guy doesn't need any minor-league time," Rodriguez proclaimed. "He will be one of the top 10 pitchers in the league if you start him on Opening Day."

We'll return to this comment a little later when you and several others are nagging and wondering why the Nats aren't moving up the standings any in 2010.

You misunderstand me.  I think a minor league deal is great, but I'm not disagreeing with anyone who says we're in trouble if he gets a spot in the rotation.

I just find it amusing how much of a twist he and Bergmann make you get your knickers in ;)

I'm more amused by you building the illusion in your head that I actually get really upset at such things. But since it is a fact in your mind...

In real life?  I'm sure you don't care.  But on here it seems to consume your posts with a vengeance.

I just find it aggravating the team continues to go down roads that bear very little fruit and it's fans obsessing over mediocre craptastic players.

I have a feeling my aggravation will be short lived since Strasburg will be filling in the rotation hole that Livan usually would root in. ;) As for Beachball, I am much more tolerant of him in a reliever role, but I don't pretend that he isn't expendable because he is.

Zuckerman posted a potential rotation that had Livo as the #3 starter to begin the year.

Who cares if he's 3, 4, or 5?  He probably does have an inside track for a rotation spot at this point, but it matters not as long as they can quickly dispose him.

You know, considering we have only two sure bets at pitcher in Marquis and Lannan to go along with countless young guys and injury risks, I can think of a lot worse #5 options at pitcher than a guy who can pitch 200+ inning and won’t get completely bombed. Our bullpen is going to get exhausted many times this year, so may as well give them some protection so they’re fresh on a day where we may want to get a young guy out as his pitch count starts getting up there. Livan Hernandez is an inexcusable option for a contending team, but he is allowable on a team that would see 65 wins as a positive step and 70 wins as maybe real success.

Doesn't anyone realize how crappy Livan was last year?

Great... he can consistently put up a 5+ ERA. So can a ton of other pitchers out there.

I'll take a guy who will throw 7 innings, give up 4-5 runs, and rest the 'pen vs. a guy who will throw 4-5 innings, give up 3 runs, and tax the 'pen.  That is, as long as said guy will be a placeholder for Strasburg/Wang/Detwiler.

No, he doesn't consistently put up the 5+ ERA.  He VERY inconsistently does this.  As I observed, 6 of his 8 starts were quality starts, while the other two were el-stinkos.  That's a lot different from giving up a consistent 5+ runs per 9 innings, game after game.

We have a whole bunch of crap pitchers. Atleast he can throw a ton of innings without us thinking, "Wait, this guy is 24, lets not blow up his arm."

Now, he should be a last option to any other young pitcher who even has a pulse and is healthy and not on some inning limit.
