I would believe that they would make something like that up just to torment the "lowly" Nats and their fans. We are the butt of every joke.

Shoulder injuries are tricky, many pitchers never regain their velocity after shoulder surgery. Wang is pretty much a 1 pitch pitcher.. and if the velocity on his sink isn't 94-96 mph... he won't be the same Wang that won 18 games 2 straight seasons. Also, the Yankees know more about Wangs condition than anyone else, and they were not interested in bringing him back at all, reports came out during the post season they indented to non tender him and let him walk. Why wouldn't they want him back? He could of been a solid #4, they wouldn't of had to trade their best pitching prospect for Vazquez.

I'd like to see the Nats with an option for 2011. If they're going to take the risk of signing him, the benefit would be to lock him up through next year too when he might be better / fully rehabbed.

I would not call Wang a #1 starter. When the NYY trotted him out in the playoffs, he was always overmatched by CC and the like. Still, if he has the mid-90s sinker, this is dynamite.

Still, it really does beg the question of why this team went for Hudson / Kennedy rather than a good glove SS. We joked about SF/A-Clown's panic mode re: early FA signings, and he was against a glove-first, Adam Everett / Omar Vizquel signing, but he was on to something about the SS market. We waited, and now we probably did not strengthen the mid infield enough defensively given the ground ball tendencies of the staff.

If he regains his form, I'd call him a #1, but I wouldn't call him an ace. He's probably closer to an 1 1/2.

As Kurkjian just commented on Baseball Tonight, this would be a low contract with heavy incentives, a good deal for both sides and one we should make.

At this stage of the game - with not a lot left on the table - you offer these type of contracts. If the Nats land CMW, I'm very happy with this offseason.
