Righty Chien-Ming Wang has chosen the Nationals and is close to a deal, tweets Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Wang, 30 in March, had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right shoulder capsule on July 29th of last year.  On January 28th, Wang's agent Alan Nero told ESPN's Jayson Stark that his client is expected to "make a major-league start sometime in the first two weeks of May."

Apparently Wang is ahead of schedule in his rehab, is throwing freely without pain.  Keep in mind though, that he had multiple injuries - hurt his foot running the bases, which threw off his mechanics ultimately leading to the shoulder issue.  Still, it's intriguing to think we might have a shot at getting what is a very solid #2 type starter.

I am waiting to see how much money they're giving him before I decide whether or not it's a good signing.

It's only a good signing if they give him a LOT :stir:

If he's healthy and can regain his mechanics, he's got #1, not ace, but #1 stuff.  This is a great deal by the Nats.

UP WITH WANGS!

Always been a favorite pitcher of mine, since he seemed to come out of nowhere for the Yankees.

Never again will it feel this good to grab a Wang.

I'm sorry, but the joke potential alone makes this a great signing. Between there being a Wang on our team and an ASSCLOWN on our board, I will have a big stupid grin permanently pasted on my face until July.

I think this is great, but Wang just hasn't been the same at all since he last won 19, even when healthy. As far as I'm concerned he is basically a different pitcher now.

Nothing is close between the #Nats and RHP Chien-Ming Wang, according to a baseball source.

What's your source on it being a made up rumor?

You should be thrown in jail for that crap if you can't produce one.

Ken Rosenthal tweet:
Source: #Nats one of 2 teams Wang is considering. Decision in 7 to 10 days. Boston Globe reporting that Nats indeed his choice.

Ben Goessling seems to imply we are his fall back option if the Dodgers don't sign him.

Several guys like Ladson, Harlan, and Goessling have all came out and said that the report that he has agreed to terms with the Nats is 100% false.

The report was a lie.

You should go tell the Boston Globe that they're full of liars.
