8 runs ~ 1 win.  You can say Hudson offensively is worth about .5 to 1.0 extra wins over Guz.  that's consistent with what I think most of the stat head stuff says.  CHONE has about a 4 run difference (.5 wins) (18 v 22), the Fans at Fangraphs have a whopping 15 run difference (10 v 25). I've said that the fans are low balling their expectations for Guzman, so treat that as closer to 7 or 8 runs using the CHONE estimate for Guz.  Congrats, Dunnkey, you proved the point for the geeks.

freak Felipe.  We already have poutface whiny Guzman.  The last thing we need is yet another threat of clubhouse cancer.

I just wanted to hear some more grounded opinions on what exactly people think Hudson will contribute aside from raw individual numbers, no matter how fancy ;)

Because Hudson is a Second Baseman, and Guzman is not. Guzman is a shortstop who has never played second base in his life.

and as a Second Baseman, Hudson is WAY better than anyone else we have to put at second base.

so I am wondering  why we are comparing Guzman's contributions at shortstop to Hudson's contributions at second base.

shouldn't we be comparing Guzman to Desmond?

(see? not a single number in that opinion).

We're just comparing offense.

But this is stupid.  They'll both play.

I know. but Hudson is not coming in here to take Guzman's position. he's coming in here to take Alberto Gonzalez's position.  Guzman's competiton is Desmond.

so I don't see the point in the whole discussion, really.

If it is a contest based on merit, it will be interesting.

I can't wait to hear what Chief and PA say if/when Hudson signs elsewhere because of a million or two extra that the Lerners won't ante up.  :stir:

Isn't Guzman pretty pissy about the idea of moving him to second anyway?

A major league source told FOXSports.com that the Twins have intensified their pursuit of free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson.

The Nationals have been connected to Hudson most often, but that doesn't mean they are the front-runners for his services. They are hoping that O-Dog comes down to their price, but the veteran second baseman still hopes to land $6 million on a one-year deal, according to a source. That isn't likely to happen with either club, but if they offer similar deals, the chance of being on a winning ballclub in Minnesota could be the difference. Stay tuned.

I just learned from a baseball source that 2B Orlando Hudson will not play for the #Nats. He most likely will play for the Twins.

Shrug.

All that means is that Hudson is trying to negotiate through the media.  He may very well end up with the twinkies, but it ain't over til it's over.

Wow, Kennedy would be a natural for the Presidents race.  Too bad we are the Nats and not the Senators.
