Shut your mouth ASSCLOWN.  I didn't hear you whining that they underpaid Marquis.  Or shout "LAC" at any of other Rizzo's shrewd signings.  Face it, you just aren't happy unless you have something to piss and moan about.

All of that is irrelevant. The fact is that the Nats have one of the lower payrolls in all of baseball and are coming off back-to-back 100+ loss seasons. They are holding out on signing a gold-glove, All Star 2B-man who wants to play here over a couple of million?! It does not make any sense. If I was Hudson I would tell the Nats to freak themselves and sign with Colorado.

We'll see how you feel a few months from now if we don't get Hudson and are playing an assortment of guys like Pete WarriOrr and AlGo.

If they do get Hudson and all of this crap is just a play by Rizzo then so be it. But I do not like what I am hearing.

Rockies already signed a MI. Two years in a row, no one has rushed to sign this guy. Rizzo course of action is measured for a reason.

If they don't pay Hudson, will Chief and the others admit that the LAC?

Who is this Chief, A-Clown?

Hudson is not the savior, this isn't Tex last year. He is a useful part who we'd probably only like to sign to a 1 year deal. There is no reason to go balisic over whether or not we sign him. That being said, it's kind of hard to put a good spin on a offseason with no major signings.

You don't think he could help us this year? His track record speaks for itself. Is he not a huge upgrade over Guzman/Orr/Gonzalez?

This is the type of signing that will help us become more respectable now and in the future.

He's an upgrade and would help us win more games. That being said, we're not talking about a long term contract and we're not talking about a truely elite second baseman (if we were, he'd be insisting on a longterm deal).

I kind of agree with both of you.  It seems kind of ridiculous to go so cheap that they can't give into a demand of an extra ~1.5 mil.

That said, this team ain't goin anywhere this year with this pitching staff, so we don't have some dire need for Hudson.

This has been said ad nauseum throughout the FA period every offseason.  It's not true - I guarantee that even if they sign Hudson, this will be said again next offseason.

I see this as being like the Dunn deal - the Nats have the best offer out there, but it doesn't bowl them over by any means.  They are waiting, he is posturing, but in the end he will probably sign here and it will probably be for a little more than he could find elsewhere.

They needed to add a Garland to make the pitching staff passable but now I agree that they are not good enough unless several of the younger starters make a significant jump.

I'm just tired of seeing it.  How are we still arguing that a player could bring the Nats respectability when we said extending Zimmerman would bring respectability, or signing Dunn would bring respectability, or signing Strasburg would bring respectability?  Clearly it wasn't true in those cases or we wouldn't still be looking for it.  The only path towards real respectability takes a lot of time and definitely does not hinge on Orlando Hudson.

It is true. Hudson helps us win more games this year and puts us on the road to becoming a contender in the near future. The more games we win the more likely stud FAs will sign here. You have to start somewhere. Signing Marquis and Pudge this off-season also helps this cause. We need to build credibility badly here in D.C. after the beating this franchise has taken by every media outlet over the last few seasons.

can someone run a Guzman/Hudson vs Guzman/Desmond simulation to see if the team really wins more games? Because I don't buy it. Desmond/Hudson, for sure, but Guzman needed to be a Red Sox before the end of the season :bang: There's a lot of certainties being bandied around, and I'm not sure of anything until May or so.

By someone, I mean a Nate Silver type. Anyone have his beeper number?

How would you define "respectability" in the context you mean it?

Expecting any one player to launch us from .364 to .500 is a bit much to expect.  Strasburg hasn't even had chance to play yet, so one can hardly fault the front office for its efforts there so far.  You want Keith Law's love and appreciation?  Guess I'm not sure what you are looking for here in terms of the respectability objective.

People are underselling Hudson. His signing would be comparable to Dunn and Marquis signings. This is a good baseball player.

Are either of these statements facts?

It's difficult to be optimistic about this team but we have to get better sooner or later. It is time for change.

Hyperbole if I have ever seen it. He's a good baseball player. Fine.

Adam Dunn is a top shelf power hitter. Transformed the lineup.

Marquis will stabilize the rotation like you wouldn't believe.

Hudson is more of a known quanitity at 2nd, but his range is bad, and Desmond has the potential to exceed him defensively and offensively.

The first two players had NO ONE in the farm system ready to fill that bill.
