Who cares?  It's not about whether Pineiro is good or not - it's a matter of supply and demand.  Now that he's off the market, you have a different ratio of teams vying for SP and available "decent" SP.

In some ways, yes. But also the later it gets, the more paranoid the players get, and you can score a bargain. It's a tightrope walk.

Look at how Adam LaRoche screwed himself over.

Yeah, that's true.  Once ST starts, things do a 180.  It really depends on whether any talent lasts that long.

But the Nats are really taking a gamble if that's their intent.

Don't shake Wang around too much, or you might get Piniero on yourself or maybe on the Sheets.

Was that wrong?

I'd take Wang.  His injury was more in his hip which led to mechanical issues which affected his shoulder.  If he's got his mechanics straightened out, I wouldn't be that concerned about bringing him in.  I'd love to take a chance on Wang or Sheets.  Both have ace level stuff if they're back to healthy.

I don't think there is any chance that we DON'T sign the O-Dog. He would like to play here, and other guys on the team want him here. In my opinion, it is just a matter of time before Hudson is in a Nats uniform.

Hope you're right.  I agree with your sentiments, but will somebody else offer a lot more?

Hudson costs 8 million more, because you have to bench or cut Guzman. Hudson/Guzman will be an old man defensive train wreck.

Let them sign a sinkerballer like Wang, and then let Guzman and Hudson try and stop the barrage of grounders that attacks them.

Rizzo should have given the Red Sox the gift of Guzman, but since he didn't, he can't bring a Hudson type.

if we sign Hudson, then Guzman HAS to go.

we simply CANNOT have a Guzman/Hudson middle.

Hope he (Guzman) gets hot to start the season, then deal him for a couple of prospects.

Truth.

I think we have a bandwagon. The no-Man/Son'ers.

Now that the D-Rays are interested, our chances of signing the O-Dog have gone down quite a bit. They are in a much better position to win than we are at this point.

To win 3rd place maybe.  Shrug.

Soriano is a big upgrade to the bullpen, they have a few more good arms MLB ready (Davis, Hellickson), and Zobrist / Hudson would be a nice upgrade over their other RF/2d combos.  They have very nice balance, depth, and are not old.  They are kind of like first runner up at Miss America - in case the NYY or Red Sox stumble, they can jump. I/M/O, they are one of the top 5 teams in baseball.

I'm not saying they suck, I just don't think they're playoff-bound.  Obviously they can make a better case for it than we can, but if I'm Hudson and the Nats are offering a better deal, that's where I go.

The next post on MLBTR says no way he's going to the Rays. Why would you guys take Robert Olney as gospel anyway?

I'm not sold on Brignac, and he is the only insurance for Bartlett.  I like Rodriguez, though.  I don't think Jennings is an early call up, although a Crawford / Jennings / Upton outfield would win a lot of track meets.   Zobrist to RF still makes some sense.  The Topkins tweet could be company line because the Rays do not want to get into a bidding war.

Nothing new, but a nice read from Nationals Pride:

Quote from: Nats Pride
I like Orlando Hudson. I really do. I like his attitude, his hustle, like watching his defensive play, and I like the thought of he and Morgan at the top of the Nats lineup.  The speed is reminiscient of the Marlins with Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo in 2003.

I know the detractors when it comes to analyzing Orlando Hudson.  His range factor is not great thus making his gold glove repuation a little suspect.  His average and runs scored are not near what you would think for a player who many talk about as a key addition to a team.  Yes, when you remove the names, the differences between he and Adam Kennedy might not be that markedly different, on paper, but...

With a team like the Nationals, so much of where they need to be is about character, leadership and a winning attitude.  You cannot build a team with a whole bunch of paper tigers, you need glue guys who can rally and inspire a team, and from what everyone says about Hudson, he is a great clubhouse guy.  He fits the mold of the type of player Rizzo covets, like Morgan.  People forget, on paper, Nyjer Morgan was not really much of an addition, but his style of play and his demeanor transformed the way this team attacked.  I think Hudson can do the same.

I am predicting seeing him in the fold very soon, and then the Nats may do a platoon between Guzman and Desmond.  Who knows, thoughts?

Quote
Infielders' fate depends on Hudson's next move — 12:27 a.m.

Once second baseman Orlando Hudson picks his next team, the market for several other free-agent infielders will become clearer.

Hudson is the linchpin of the remaining infielders, with six teams showing varying degrees of interest, according to major-league sources.

Adam Kennedy is talking to many of those same clubs. Felipe Lopez, Orlando Cabrera and Melvin Mora also could be tied, directly or indirectly, to Hudson.

The Nationals, Twins, Reds, Tigers and Rockies are among the teams looking for infield help. The Mariners could add an infielder if they trade second baseman Jose Lopez. The Rays could sign Hudson and move Ben Zobrist to right field. The Cardinals would like to upgrade at third base.

The glut of infielders and number of potential moving parts could spur teams to be creative — and unpredictable — as spring training nears.

Why are the Rockies looking for MI help?  They have Tulo at SS and either Barmes or Young at second.
The other teams I understand.
