I'd be happy if we could trade Guzman for a half-eaten donut.

See the other thread about 10/5 players :( He's in DC for the whole season.

Not yet.  Quit acting like such a panicmonkey.  He can still consent to a trade even after the weekend deadline.

Guzman's untradable. Hudson is undesirable to me at this point. Unless you trade Desmond for a starter.
what?  :nono:

The main difference there between Phoenix and DC is the humidity. I can understand for retirees, but isn't humid air what keeps the ball in the park in Denver?

Contrary to popular belief, balls fly further in humid air than they do in dry air.

Assuming no breeze, factors affecting the distance of balls hit in the air, in descending order of importance:

1) Altitude - higher means thinner air, longer flight.
2) Heat  - hotter air expands, fewer molecules in the same space, therefore hotter is better
3) Humidity - water molecules take up more space, causes air to be LESS dense than when dry, hence balls fly further.

As a 2nd baseman for the Nationals, he seems like a great guy in all other cases. Don't be an ASSCLOWN.

You can't oversimplify the physics.

This study isn't great, but it's better.

After this weekend, the only practical way he can be traded is if we not only eat at least a portion of his contract AND he likes his destination AND, most likely, he extorts something out of the team trading for him like an extra year.  I just can't see any team willing to meet that price.

If it turns out that Desmond or Espinosa is ready mid season and Guz is stinking out the joint, it is not inconceivable that the team would eat the last $2.5m on his contract and release him.  That is, if he is the SS and we sign Hudson or Kennedy. If we do not, then I think he'll play 2d, and if he bombs, gradually lose time to Willie and maybe another utility guy.

Can you trade a player in exchange for taking over a salary cap hit of another team?  Then maybe the Red Sox would take Guz in exchange for the $9m hit on Lugo they are carrying.  It'd lower their cap number.

Actually he become a 10 & 5 guy in October of last year. I'm a little surprised it hasn't come up before.

YOU would rather have Pete Orr playing second, remember? "I would rather have Pete Orr for 450k than Guzman for 8m" - it's in somebody's signature! EDIT: PA's signature. Okay, you must be joking then.

I'm not referring to humidity in the ball, but in the air itself, assuming the same ball under varying conditions.  I know they use the humidor to make the balls heavier and reduce distance.

This is cute but unsourced. I can think about it or search the scientific literature later, but that's a lot of work. . .

In Phoenix if you go to jail, you have to wear a pink jumpsuit.

In DC if you go to jail, you have to become mayor.

Which you can achieve as mayor of Baltimore. It's all connected.

Guzman is a SS. Desmond is a SS. Orr is a scrub AAA bum. From the way Rizzo has talked Desmond is destined for AAA to start the season anyways. He will not get a chance to make the team.

So if we don't get Hudson I fail to see how we will be able to field a ML caliber infield.

Wait? I can understand that right now is kind of a down time but freak, Get Hudson. Why rush Desmond and throw Guz at a position that isn't his primary just because we wont try harder... Well this may not be the case because nothing is released except for the teams interested in him but my point is, why give up? We need him. We need a second baseman. I was open to the Idea of Desmond/Guzman earlier but we need Guzman at short to switch with Desmond every little bit. It works even better for us if we get Hudson and Guzman has a pretty good 1st half at short. We could trade him for pieces. Getting Hudson would allow this.

PA just doesn't want his Lerner boys to spend money 8)  JK

Hudson would instantly be the best second baseman we've had since coming to town.  A lot of the guys have come out recently and said publicly how much they'd like to have him as a Nat.

It seems like he can be had for at a decent price; you don't pass up on this chance.  Then once you sign him, you worry about the Guzman/Desmond situation.

WTF Deivi Cruz?

I'd rather have Belliard if you want an offense first 2B.

But hey maybe UZR is totally bullcrap. Who goes through and records the range stats for each play?

Let's also sign 2 more backup catchers so the owners can spend money.

Sign Jim Edmonds, what, we don't need a backup 3B?
