A baseball source told me that the Nationals are on top of Orlando Hudson's wish list. We'll see if that's true.

I spoke to the O-Dog today. He said he is making progress on signing with a team, but would not name the team.

I'd honestly love to see a Desmond/Hudson combo up the middle.  Maybe after the trade deadline...

I wonder if they go after Hudson if it'd just be for one year or perhaps two?

And, take it fwiw, but in doing research for the countdown thread, Alberto Gonzalez's stats at 2B are actually very good.

I have been channeling Dave Cameron too long.  If Willingham goes, then please do as Dave says.
Quote
This afternoon, Buster Olney reported that Damon’s best offer may come for $4 or $5 million on a one year deal from the Oakland A’s – an AL West club that could use an offensive boost.
2008 Abreu and 2009 Damon had very similar offensive seasons.

Abreu: 684 PA, .296/.371/.471, 10.7% BB%, 17.9% K%, .176 ISO, .368 wOBA
Damon: 626 PA, .282/.365/.489, 11.3% BB%, 17.8% K%, .207 ISO, .376 wOBA

Basically the same kind of production, once you adjust for the change in Yankee Stadiums. They’re similar hitters at similar spots in their career. Both have declined from their prime, but not fallen all that far.
. . .
Damon, on the other hand, throws like a girl but is otherwise a decent defender. It’s true that his 2009 UZR is not good, but his total UZR over the last three years at the position is a +5, and as we try to remind people frequently, larger sample sizes are needed when evaluating defense.
...
Abreu was a bargain on a one year, $5 million deal with the Angels, even as he proved that he didn’t really belong in the outfield anymore. Damon, though, is basically the same hitter, just with better defensive skills, and he might have to settle for less than what Abreu got? This is a market correction gone way too far.

What stats are you speaking of? Gonzalez's range was a -4.7 at 2B... by far his worst position and he ended up with a -2.3 UZR at 2B for the year.

For a guy with no bat... he better be a damn good fielder... something I don't see in Gonzalez.

Well, he made only one error at 2d (10 at SS).  He gets burned on range measures at 2d.  While most guys keep their range when they make the shift or get relatively better in comparison to other 2d basemen, AG did not.  This is not meant as an indictment of the idea of shifting a SS to 2d because, as we all know, AG was never indicted (or do I have my AG's confused).  Just a caution about Guzman.

The Dodgers signed Belliard instead. I know they want to save money, but that's twice they picked Belly over Hudson.

Belly ended up with an .800 OPS and hitting .277

Man, Garland really DID want to sign with a west coast team. Even one mid-fire-sale.

now what, chief? :hang:

If they don't get Hudson at the least this Off-season will have been sub-par and not acceptable.

What a doofus.

I mean he'll put up great numbers in Petco. Of the 3.50 ERA, 15 losses variety.

10 million this year > 5 million this year with slightly better numbers and a chance for a better deal next year.

Take a look what Damon did away from the AL East. In the 45 game the Yankees played out side the AL east, Damon hit a grand total of 0 home runs.
