In the past two seasons Piniero has reinvented himself as a pitcher.

Linty,
Though I too was worried about the Dave Duncan effect, your post really convinces me that Pineiro is worth a shot and won't be a one-hit wonder.

Only two GMs attended Aroldis Chapman's workout in Houston today: Ed Wade, Houston Astros, and ....... Mike Rizzo.

Depth is a good thing. Burke is good to fill in in a pinch.

Everyone thank God that you are not Pirates fans. They want to re-sign Capps. WTF?

Aroldis Chapman's former agents are suing the Hendricks brothers, asserting that the Hendricks defamed their representation of Chapman, and contacted Chapman directly with intent of breach of contract. They want whatever commission the Hendricks get.

Thinking back... Rizzo wasn't the GM that couldn't sign Crowe. For all we know, the Hendricks may love Rizzo.

Nats signed Joel Peralta to a minor league deal.

From rotoworld.com

Quote
Nationals signed RHP Joel Peralta to a minor league contract.

Peralta, who turns 34 in March, chose free agency after refusing an outright assignment by the Rockies in October. He posted a 6.20 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 27 appearances with Colorado in '09.

I'm sure he'll be the savior of the bullpen in no time.

Why in the hell did they re-sign Burke and Kensing? So stupid.

If either player sees any time with the Nats this year we are freaked.

I kind of got the impression that the team was freaked this year no matter what.

I'm trying to be realistic about these type of things.

This.

I like the Pudge signing but I hope to hell that's not the only big acquisition we make this off season.

I hope they get Marquis. He's the younger, more effective Livan type this team needs. Marquis+Smoltz+what we've got is fairly respectable.

Strasburg
Chapman
Garland
Lannan
Martin

That rotation would work for me.

I'll take Piniero and Garland.

Keep Marquis away!

Strasburg
Chapman
Garland
Lannan
Martin

That rotation would work for me.

Nice. Although I've heard Chapman is so raw that there's no way he doesn't spend the year in the minors.

Except that Strasburg would likely be a summer callup and Chapman would probably spend a year in the minors or the bullpen...

Chapman is not close to Major League readiness.

I'll take Piniero and Garland.

Nats will not sign Pineiro because he wants 3-4 years.

Any starter they will sign will be on a 1 or 2 year deal.

They are going to sign Livan and pass him off as our FA SP signing so you should be happy.  8)

who's left that would count as "big"?  Smoltz?  Hey yeah, Smoltz pitching to Pudge, maybe we can sign Vlad to play right too!  We would be a shoe-in for the 1999 NL East championship.

I wouldn't sign Pineiro "just to sign someone", he had about 2/3rds of a good year in STL, and not much else.  We would be no better than if we just threw Ballester, Mock, Detwiller, Stammen, Martis, Chico, etc. out there again (and all those guys have more upside).
