Damn. Rizzo is targeting guys I feel like are not good fits for the Nats.

Marquis wasn't even part of the post season rotation for the Rockies. He flamed out after the all-star break and he's just a very average to below average pitcher.

Kasten said when they hired Rizzo that he was a huge stats type GM. Marquis had an ERA .51 runs less than his career average in 2009.

He strikes out 2 batters less per 9 innings than the average pitcher and he's right at league average in terms of walks.

The second half of last year Marquis went 4-7 with a 4.56 ERA, that's his level. The Nats can, and should do better.

And if Rizzo was such a stats guy... I think he'd see that and target guys that he can maximize their value while minimizing their monetary value.
He might have meant "huge stats guy" as in he uses stats like ERA rather than scouting. :?

This is great.  I'm finally we have a "stats guy" at the helm. :? Maybe we can make sportsfan the assistant GM.  Then we'll have a front office just chock full of stats guys.

Where do you get stuff like this? Marquis gives you innings and is not a dead weight with the bat. He's a fine signing IF they get a better pitcher, too.

It's a moot point since he will sign with the Mets over the Nats any day of the week.

Says? I mean him being a NY boy could make him go there but if he doesn't sign with either how would we know.

Defend calling him a d-bag. I've never heard anything bad about him. I'd be excited to have a Jewish player on the Nats, right JMad?

I didn't even know he was a jew. Are there any jews on the current Nats team?

I've just observed him over the years and don't like the way he carries himself. Pass.

He'll eat all the pastrami off the training table.

Seriously, he'd be the first Jewish player in DC since the return of baseball, would be nice.

Those statements were unrelated - just wanted a source for your attack on his character, seems like just a mind fact.

He is the 144th Jewish MLB player overall.

I'm far from the only one who shares that same mind fact.

Marquis has always been on a winning team anyways. Why would he want to come here? No reason. None. Not even money.

So now you don't want a player that's a winner? I thought that's what you were all about.

it works two ways. said player has to actually want to come here too.

I want Jon Garland.

Sounds like a nice, family-oriented guy. Why is sportsfan such a character assassin?

My point exactly.  Even though Marquis has the NY thing, if your logic is, "Marquis will want to play for a winner" then same goes for Garland.

Sorry SF...I would take Marquis in a second. I know it's not possible, but wouldn't it be nice if we got Marquis and Garland? I know, I know..but it's nice to dream.
