$1.1m for a bottle of Scotch whisky? https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/holy-grail-whisky-sold-record-1-1-million-140637752.html

...even though it is a good brand (The Macallan), I think I'll stick to the London Heathrow duty free shops...

Anybody ever seen a bottle of Jack Daniels Bottled-in-Bond (100 proof) stateside?  My bro picked one up in the duty free in Paris, I've not seen one here.  Generally I like the BIB's.

Why is this discussion about state liquor stores when the thread is about sitting at a bar ?

When you sit at a bar, what are you drinking?

Just got back from a trip to Tennessee where we toured the Jack Daniel distillery. It was really well done. They went through the history of how it got started, and how they managed to keep going through Prohibition. We also saw the entire distilling process from beginning to end. I did not know that they even make their own charcoal and barrels so they maintain complete control over the entire process. Alas, I was driving, so I did not take the tasting part of the tour, but it looked like the tasting pours were generous. I am not a whiskey drinker, but they do have a honey-infused whiskey that I tried later and liked, so I brought home a bottle of that.

It’s about an hour and a half from Nashville, so if you happen to be down that way, I can highly recommend the tour.

Jack with honey, put a shot of that in a glass of iced tea. Yumm!

So, just FYI, if you live in Virginia and you are underage and married, or married to someone underage:
"The licensure requirements of this chapter shall not apply to: ...Any person who keeps and possesses lawfully acquired alcoholic beverages in his residence for his personal use or that of his family. However, such alcoholic beverages may be served or given to guests in such residence by such person, his family or servants when (i) such guests are 21 years of age or older or are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or spouse who is 21 years of age or older and (ii) such service or gift is in no way a shift or device to evade the provisions of this title."

So if you're wife is underage, you can still get her drunk

Huh. That also means you can legally give alcohol to your kids when they are under 21, if I'm reading that correctly.

I think that's a loophole in a lot of places.  The main prohibition on <21 is the actual purchase of alcohol.

21/16 are the highest/lowest ages for drinking vs driving that I know of.  Of countries that actually regulate and enforce such matters at any rate.

The reverse would make much more sense.

After years of entering the ABC lottery for limited productions to no avail, my name finally was called a couple of weeks ago and got to pick one of these up today.

That is awesome! Congrats. I won the 23yo version last year but it's still sitting down in my bunker unopened. When the turtle finally gets around to inviting me over to sample the Pappy he won I'll bring it along.  Myself I've been on a dryspell with the ABC lottery but I'm hoping that changes with the current Pappy drawings that are ongoing.

Any of you come across a JD Sinatra special edition? My nephew brought it to my brother's for Thanksgiving. It was the smoothest JD I ever had. What does it go for?

$150 for a 1L bottle at the Va ABC when they have it which they don’t. It’s listed as periodic availability. I’d bet you could find some at a DC or Md liquor store. But at least you’d go in knowing what the MSRP is.
