I see more of this in the future for Harper. Pretty obnoxious to go after an ump like that in a minors game (not sure if this happens alot). The kid really needs to calm down a bit. I don't mind him being an arrogant player since players like that can bring more entertainment (hey I enjoy what T.O., Moss, and Chad "Johnson" Ochocinco do) but if his aggression gets in the way of our clubhouse or his play then he really needs some talking to.

True that he needs to calm down.  However, I didn't see or hear any evidence of his aggression causing clubhouse problems in Hagerstown or Harrisburg so far.

The first two paragraphs from a Harrisburg article about the game put the ejection in context, I think:

http://blog.pennlive.com/patriotnewssports/2011/08/bryce_harpers_emotional_ejecti.html

"Sixteen of the 18 players who started Wednesday night's Eastern League game between Richmond and Harrisburg weren't too happy with the size of home plate umpire Max Guyll's strike zone.

Body language, stare downs and brief post-strikeout arguments easily revealed as much through the first seven innings at Metro Bank Park."

Yeah. I didn't really mean for that post to come off as him being a trouble maker with fellow teammates but just hoping it stays that way. I wouldn't want any bad blood with players on our own team. I also don't mind the player being upset with umps decisions and such but I definitely thought he overreacted. I'm also just basing it on the video.

He's going to be on ESPN (and equivalent) every time he does something off-beat. The glare is fine, but slamming the helmet and sticking his finger in the umpires face just leads to more trouble. He doesn't need the trouble, or to gain  a reputation as a bush-leaguer.

He needs to learn to hit better pitching, and to keep his head in the game.

Incidentally, is it almost time to "watch" Corey Brown? BA up above .232, although some of that came when H'burg beat someobody 17 - 2.

If Harper doesn't think the MLB umpires pay attention to stuff like this, he's kidding himself.  Think those red-asses like Joe West and Hunter Wendlestadt aren't just dying to be the first guy to run him?  He better get used to getting the rookie strike zone when he shows up.  He'll have a target on his back not only by the opponents but the umps as well.

Baseball is the only sport I've ever seen that lets a player or a coach get in to it like that with an official.

Completely agree. Everyone wants to "fix umpiring" in baseball, but that also means fixing the player. Baseball is the only sport I've ever seen that lets a player or a coach get in to it like that with an official.

baseball is the only sport where officials have signature calls and routinely show boat

My goodness.

Dead center is 400... he hit it over the batter's eye. 470+ easy.

Isn't Matt Holliday one of his favorite players?
