Not if Kearns had been removed from the game.

Actually, I'm 90% sure he could be.  He counts as a 'new' player from the Astros perspective.

Thankfully, these stats WILL count in fantasy!

And that's what I really care about.  :icon_mrgreen:

I'm 100% sure that a player that has been removed from a game can't re-enter.

But he's not re-entering the game for the Nats.  He gets a fresh start with a new team.

The reference in the rules about substitutions only applies to the player's current team.

They do in my game.  At least I think they do.  This is the first suspended game of the season.

The NJ is reporting that all stats in today's suspended game are-- official.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal/2009/05/nationals_game_suspended_due_t.html?wprss=nationalsjournal

So that means that Dukes HR will be credited today and not on July 9?

Yes.  It's like when they took the tarp off the field, we were all warped to Houston.  Nats'll bat last, probably in the road uniforms.

I just hope that they have the decency to shoot off fireworks in Houston for the "home" team when Willingham hits a walk-off home run.

The danger in all of this is if a key member in your effort to win today's game gets hurt, or released, in the meantime, since the bench is already very short.  They've actually used all their bench/position players, so if something happened to any of those guys currently in the lineup, we will see one of our starting pitchers who didn't pitch today playing out in the field somewhere, the outfield most likely... lovely.

This creates an opportunity for the Nats to add a position player to the roster before that game, in place of a pitcher.

Note that Hanrahan is on deck to bat.  Now, he's probably our best hitting pitcher, but if we could send a rookie back down for a few days it might be worth it to get another bat on the bench.

It's going to be really interesting to see how the teams handle it.  I hope willingham just takes the first pitch over the short porch there in left and is just done with it.

I hope willingham is on another team by then. No offense to him.

You are correct:

Rule 4.12 (C), 2nd Paragraph:
Quote
A player who was not with the club when the game was suspended may be used as a substitute, even if he has taken the place of a player no longer with the club who would not have been eligible because he had been removed from the lineup before the game was suspended.

Can we keep this thread open until the game resumes, and talk about stupid unrelated crap like we always do until it gets locked?

tim kurkjian was just on espn a bit ago after they played the nats highlights and he was talking about the state of the nats.  said it was pretty discouraging, with the attendance being so low and bullpen being bad.  how the club really has three first baseman getting $21 million this year (dunn, johnson, young), how one of their best offensive players from last season is in AAA right now and then he mentioned strasburg and how that could generate some interest/positive vibes.

kurkjian and rosenthal are my two favorite baseball guys, b/c they give fair coverage to everyone.  i think tk made some valid points, although i like the way we've been playing the last few games.  @ 7-17 we still have the worst record in baseball, but we've made up some ground the last few days.

the bullpen dug us a hole too deep to climb out of. we made the same mistake we have made almost every year since '05.

if you want to be competitive you have to get off to a good or even a mere "average" start to the season.

Milledge is far from one of our best offensive players. He's in AAA for good. Maybe long-term he might make it as a 4th or 5th OFer.

It seems like we can never keep the momentum going though. I would have felt relatively good about this team if they had won today but of course they piss two leads away as per usual and now we are facing a daunting west coast trip.

Dmitri Young freaked us so bad. I've heard nothing about him in over a month. what a dog.

Attendance today for a 12:35 Tues game was surprisingly good. All the t-shirts were gone. There were lots of groups, including school groups. I was impressed. 19k.

do you read?  i said he referred to milledge as one of last year's better offensive players (his stats back it up).  milledge belongs in AAA and he'll be there for a while.

Bowden put a little too much faith in the BP guys we had here but I don't think any of us thought that they would all be collectively this poor.

Saul Rivera going down the toilet? No one saw that coming. Mock and Shell fizzling out was kind of surprising. Many had concerns about Joel but I don't think we thought he was going to blow this many games this soon.

Bergmann in Rizzo's doghouse. Rizzo showing a penchant to hand jobs over to has-been veterans rather than other guys like Bergmann and Clippard.

Milledge was "the best" offensive player on the worst offensive team in the Majors. big deal. That will probably end up being his career year.

I know he belongs there. At least the Chiefs are winning (no thanks to Mills who has been very mediocre).

Hidden joke in this post. Can you find it?

Rivera dominated the bottom of the order today. Would have liked to see him pitch to the top of the order to see the results.

I still dont understand what Shell did to be sent down before some of our pitchers. He gave up runs, but he did get placed in some tough positoins, bases loaded, and 2 men on.

Im glad they sent Rivera down, but our whole bullpen needs to and it cant be though, it sucks.

Enough about Milledge being any "good" last year.  His rate stats were garbage.  He was pure trash, even then.  Zimmerman, Guzman, and Dukes were better.
