It's a small box that can play most video audio and picture formats, has composite, component, and hdmi output with upconversion, and can play anything connected via usb or network shares, including wireless (though approved adapters for that are sold separately).  It comes with a tiny remote and a decent interface.  I'm not sure I'd recommend it for totally non-computer people but if you have an okay amount of technical savvy or know someone who does, it's a great way to play back media.  The only downside is that it does NOT play discs in any way shape or form.

Since I make digital backup copies of all my movies and store the originals, this isn't an issue for me, but I can see where that might be a turnoff for more mainstream users.  Then again the thing is so small that you could easily add it to whatever existing equipment you have without using much space.  It's also compatible with universal remotes if that's your thing.
It sounds similar to the boxee box with the exception that the boxee box does a lot of streaming stuff over the net in addition to the local network and comes with built in wifi.

started FNL tonight. Got to atleast ep 5-6 in season 1. The pilot was definitely one of the best I've ever seen. Pretty good stuff. Saracen is a beast.

WDTV live does Youtube Pandora and Flickr, and a Netflix deal is rumored to be in the works (would be enabled by a firmware update).

Personally online streaming is a non-issue for me, I got the Live for the large array of media support (including .mkv containers).  A quick Google would seem to indicate that mkv is problematic for the boxee, possibly due to it's apparently weaker CPU.  WD for the win, me thinks.

Disclaimer: Since Best Borrow doesn't carry them, I have no person experience with the Boxee, but the WD has blown away every other similar device I've tried, including D-Link's other offerings.

About 5 eps into season 3... I still think Matt Seracen is the best character... Coming out of nowhere and doing what hes done...

The two main characters of Season 4 are awesome (there's still the usual, but I mean the "new" ones).

I'm gonna go back and watch it from the beginning later this week, but season 1 was really cliche to me...don't get me wrong, it was awesome, and I may think it's the best after I re-watch it, but I really fell in love with the show in season 2 and 3.

I'm not sure who the second one is so far but ended the first ep. Wallace(the wire)/#5 on East Dillon is one I know. Hes a beast so far. The second, I cant say who it is but I'm guessing its the girl who seems like Tyra?

The first one is my favorite so far but 2 and 3 were awesome. 1 seemed so much like the movie with all of the story lines. 2 was really drama filled while 3 was pretty much change.

and btw I hate JD  What a punk

Nah, the girl who's like Trya isn't it (in my opinion). You don't meet the second major new character until a couple episodes in.

And yea, JD McCoy is a nag.

Arrested Development

How is this show? I've seen it on many top 10 lists and many people highly regard it. I haven't gotten into it though.

I watched every episode and just don't understand why people liked it so much. It's okay, but that's it, IMO. I just didn't like most of the characters.

I'd say my five favorite past or present TV shows are...
Columbo
Arrested Development
Colbert Report
Mad Men
Man Versus Food

More people need to watch Mad Men. Fantastic show.
