I think it's pretty bullcrap, though this is the first I've heard of it.

Why? If you buy a used game without a code in it, they make no $$ off of you. The store is the one making $$ off you. Don't you want to support developers so they make more games down the road?

They already made their money when they sold it new.  I don't pay a fee to unlock cruise control if I buy a used car because the manufacturer wouldn't make money otherwise.

I don't care much for the micro-transaction crap they are doing more and more of now. Madden nickel and dimes you to death. Some of the fighting games are making you pay for downloadable characters now....like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I can see the day coming where you have to buy guns in games like Call of Duty.

Did anyone get this email today?

If You Purchased Certain Electronic Arts Brand Football Video Games
Between January 1, 2005 to the Present
You May Be a Class Member.

Membership as a class member in the Electronic Arts Litigation is the result of a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, Oakland Division (Case No. 08-cv-02820 CW).

What Is This Class Action About?
The class action lawsuit alleges violations of California's antitrust and consumer protection laws in connection with the sale of certain football video games. Plaintiffs, purchasers of Electronic Arts' football video games, claim that Defendant Electronic Arts entered into a series of exclusive licenses with the National Football League (NFL), National Football League Players' Association (NFLPA), National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), and Arena Football League (AFL), which Plaintiffs claim foreclosed competition in an alleged football video game market. Plaintiffs allege that this series of exclusive licenses caused customers who purchased certain football video games to be overcharged.

Defendant Electronic Arts has denied any liability and all allegations of misconduct. The Court has not decided whether the Defendants did anything wrong, and this Notice is not an expression of any opinion by the Court about the merits of any of the claims or defenses asserted by any party to this litigation.

Who Are Class Members?
The Class includes all persons who, during the period January 1, 2005 to the present, purchased the Madden NFL, NCAA Football, or Arena Football League brand video games published by Electronic Arts with a release date of January 1, 2005 to the present. Excluded from the class are purchasers of software for mobile devices, persons purchasing directly from Electronic Arts, persons purchasing used copies of the relevant football video games, and Electronic Arts' employees, officers, directors, legal representatives, and wholly or partly owned subsidiaries or affiliated companies.

What Should I Do? (Getting Further Information)
If you believe that you may be a class member (see above "Who Are Class Members"), you should get more detailed information about the class action and its potential effect on you and your rights. Further information can be obtained by going to the following website: www.easportslitigation.com. Additional information about the lawsuit may be obtained from Plaintiffs' Counsel website at www.hbsslaw.com, or by calling Plaintiffs' Counsel at 1-206-623-7292.

To Remain a Class Member
If you are a class member and you do nothing, you will be bound by the court's rulings in the lawsuit, including any final Settlement or Judgment.

To Exclude Yourself from the Class
(Deadline to Request Exclusion: June 25, 2011)
If you are a class member and you want to exclude yourself from the class and keep your right to sue Defendant, you must take further action before June 25, 2011. By that date, you must request exclusion in writing to this address:
Electronic Arts Litigation Exclusion
P.O. Box 8090
San Rafael CA 94912-8090

Or submit a request for exclusion electronically at the following website: www.easportslitigation.com

For further information about excluding yourself from the class go to the following website:
www.easportslitigation.com

Please do not telephone or address inquiries to the Court.
April 6, 2011. By Order of the U.S. District Court (N.D. Cal. - Oakland Div.).

its the class-action lawsuit that some gamers filed against EA a while back.  I remember that.

trying to get EA's exclusivity pact with all the pro football leagues undone so that other companies can make NFL games.

Does that mean anything for us though?

I want to file this against 2k sports so I can see EA make some baseball games.

basically that if you bought Madden or NCAA football any time since 2005, you can be considered a plaintiff in the lawsuit, and then benefit somehow from whatever the decision/award from the class action lawsuit is, should they rule in favor of the plaintiffs.

oh, and buy a PS3 and play The Show already.

Oh. Well screw that.

And I've contemplated getting a PS3 but I'd pretty much only use it for three things: 1) The Show 2) Socom 3) Blu Ray. Can't see myself paying 300$ for just those three things.

do what i did:

sell your 360 and all games/controllers, then buy the ps3 with the games u want. un-subscribe to XBL. you lose your XBL games/friends online, but the system is superior for games (IMO - my taste) and the free blue-ray and free online service is another cost saved.

:nono:

I prefer the XBL service and games to PS3, plus all the friends thing is a big factor too.

I'll think about this for the next month and see if I can hold so money aside for a PS3.

The Show kicks ass. I think it is easily the best baseball videogame series ever made.

The new Mortal Kombat is a freakin' BLAST to play.  Love the arcade stick that the "you spent HOW much on that game?" edition comes with, but it's very comfortable to play with an ordinary xbox controller as well.

I almost bought it when I was at Best Buy today.  However, I have actual work to do this week and there's no way that would happen if I picked it up.  I guess I'll have to live vicariously through Chief.  :P

Just spent about 90 minutes online with a buddy wailing on each other with random selects.  The game has so much "oomph" that it's hard not to enjoy, even when you're on the receiving end of the beating.  I can't speak for intermediate MK games as I stopped playing after MK3, but this game definitely has just the right mix of speed and brawling.  None of the mechanics they've added are really "new", but the way they're implemented into the MK style of play is just perfect.  I watched tons of videos before the game came out, but you just can't get true appreciation for it without playing it yourself.

Man, Gears 3 beta comes out on Monday and you need to preorder it from gamestop to get in. Preorder is 5$. I really want to play but I think I'm going to preorder it on Amazon because preordering it there gives you 20$ amazon credit.

Gamestop is such a joke. $18 store credit for Halo: Reach compared to $30 (gift card) from bestbuy. I know where I'll be trading in my games from now on. :P

Yeah, but the game has to be on the list I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Video-Games-Gadgets/Trade-in-Games/pcmcat232900050010.c?id=pcmcat232900050010 - Link to get quotes and see whats on the list. And also to see if your store does it.

Edit: It also looks like they have an app for iPhone/droids and BB's to check trade in values and deals on games: http://bbmob.com/clients/bestbuy/?h=488
