Wedge, in his seventh season as Indians manager, is signed through 2010. The Indians are 529-525 under Wedge. They won the Central in 2007 and came within a game of reaching the World Series and Wedge won AL Manager of the Year.

It would have been nice if our GM had said the same thing rather than leaving Acta out to dry.

This is hilarious and pretty cool at the same time. The worst one-game career of all-time (according to this dude from Bleacher Report):

0.1 IP, 189.00 ERA, 5 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 1 WP

Filling in for players departed for WWII, Cleary came in during the fourth inning of game two of the Senators' double-header with the Boston Red Sox.

That was the only highlight of his day.

Cleary faced only nine hitters, and he allowed eight of them to reach base, seven of which were allowed to cross home plate. The awful performance set a MLB record for the highest ERA for a player with a recorded out.

However, as woeful as it may appear, his play did pave way for one of the strangest, yet most inspiring, one-game careers in history.

Needing someone—anyone—to replace Cleary, the Senators turned to Bert Shepard.

Shepard pitched five innings, gave up one run, and struck out two. His statline doesn't seem impressive until you consider one amazing fact:

He played with one leg.

Shepard served as a fighter pilot serving in the war, and he had his leg amputated after his plane was shot down in Germany. After returning to the United States, Shepard was focused on resuming his baseball career.

Despite being a career minor leaguer, Shepard impressed Senators owner Clark Griffith enough to be hired as a pitching coach for the 1945 season. Desperate for fresh pitchers in their fourth consecutive double-header, the Senators sent Shepard out to pitch.

All of a sudden, his stats seem a little better, no?

They certainly dwarf those of Cleary, who, after his early exit, would be the last Ireland native to pitch in a major league game.

but Jeter tried to steal third, and the throw beat him by a mile. but Toronto's 3rd Baseman, rather than tagging Jeter's headfirst-sliding hands, tagged him right in the middle of his chest......after both of Jeter's hands were practically wrapped around third base.

Umpire called him out, Jeter argued, Girardi got tossed.

I suppose that in the American League, tagging the runner before he touches the base isn't required, as long as your throw gets there before he does.

Stealing is contrary to AL policy and so must be punished. It's not what thye market.

That was a heck of a play by Jeter. The tag was there and he moved his hand back and Rolen never got the tag there. If the answer Jeter got from the ump is accurate,

Jeter immediately jumped up and confronted Foster, saying he hadn't been tagged by Rolen.

Then this issues needs to be addressed. That's like saying "well the it was pretty close to a strike on the 3-0 count, so it doesnt' matter if it actually was a strike, he got it close." I'm not a Yankee fan, but that was a bad call.

Ryan Dempster to the DL. He broke his toe celebrating the Cubs' victory.

"Sunday after the game, I was coming out of the dugout and I was stepping over the top of the railing and I caught my left foot on the rail as I was coming over," Dempster said. "It spun me around and slammed me into the ground. When I did it, I thought I ripped my nail back on my foot. Unfortunately, the result wasn't funny."

He has great stuff, he hides the ball well, and he doesn't get rattled. Cabrera had a strong arm and... well, that's about it.

Three hits, two runs and a walk given up in the 7th. Has Tim Lincecum been possessed by Daniel Cabrera???

...and he didn't make it out of the inning after giving up another walk loading the bases!!!
