Dombrowski brings to the franchise a once, or maybe twice, in a lifetime player who is readily identified as a certain HOFer. Trying to make the Marlins fans feel good about Loria, during the Nats series the TV announcers mentioned how Zimmerman was considered the face of the franchise and the Nats went to arby rather than lock him up, unlike the Fish with Hanley. They conveniently forgot the fact that no player with a multi-year contract with Loria has ever lasted more than two years without being traded, and even that only happened once - Mike Lowell - with nobody else ever staying with they team beyond the non-waiver deadline of the 2nd year, and most getting traded during the offseason after the first year. Then they went on about how Zimmerman was not locked up, but they'd given Dmitri a 2-year deal.

Made me feel oh so much better about Loria.

Well, you were right about one thing - he is about 8 months younger. You do get points for not saying Dukes is better than Cabrera, too.

Notice something there with the Brewers. Their runners at 2nd and 3rd both tagged up and advanced.

If that were the Nationals, that would have been a triple play. Our runners would've all ran like the wind, only to get thrown out at their original bases.

This is exactly what's wrong with the Nationals. It's the little things. This is not a smart team.

exactly. all those "little things" that we do wrong add up to a big problem and is the reason we keep losing games.

Dumb baseball, especially at higher levels, is very difficult to endure.

Except people on the Nats sites have been killing Milledge for not scoring from second on a ball that hit Jeff Francouer's glove on Friday night. In other words making the same "smart" play as the Brewers did last night.

Different situation, wiseguy. Brewcrew had nobody out in that situation, in which case the smarter play is to move over to third so you can score on an infield sacrifice.

Milledge did that with one out, which meant that tagging and moving to third was almost meaningless.

what a freaking joke. The Brewers' announcers are nagging about how tough their early schedule has been. They have faced the Giants, Cubs, and Reds thus far. Those 3 teams have a combined 10-10 record.

We have faced the Fish, Braves, and Phillies who have a combined 14-5 record.
