Boz pointed out today that his career is very closely parallel to Reggie Jackson, and Harmon Killebrew, and that 5 more years of this 40/100 business and he's looking at the HOF.
not a chance in hell will Adam Dunn ever be in the hall of fame.

Haha dude i'm sorry i have to call you out on this one.  First dunn was a second-tier, now he's a third-tier?  Just like that?  And I gotta agree with Boz, I think because of how long this has dragged on, the more likely his price has dropped.

I said give him a three-year deal, I still think it's a wise move.  I would be flat out shocked if he got more than three years (in fact, he may only get a two-year deal).
3 years would be a disaster. 2 would be manageable but would still suck. 1 year would be okay.

Second-tier, third-tier. Same thing. He's not even close to being a first-tier talent.

MrMadison, I know what you're saying.

Honestly, I don't care how much the team spends and really what they spend it on (but I see it as a way to get better in some cases), as long as we win or at least show tremendous progress.  That's what any fan should want.  Last year we didn't win and didn't show much progress.  Not at all.  And we're looking for a piece to really boost this line-up, that we just don't have.

I don't know how magically we can all of a sudden be that much better next season.  I've stated I think we'll be a little better, b/c we had bad luck with injuries and relied on a lot of AAAA and young guys.  But we're still going to be relying on young guys, this is their time to shine, and a lot of players who have proven to be injury-prone.  (thank god not as many AAAA players)

With the team we have in place now and I'm thinking (ballpark) we'll be (at worst) 66-95, (at best)72-89, so possibly 69-92.

Again it's a matter of your opinion vs. others.  You can't bash others for having an opinion.  YOU think it's stupid.  SOME AGREE, OTHERS DON'T.

The hate dripping from sportsfan regarding Dunn is funny and puzzling at the same time.    :icon_mrgreen:

The almighty Bill Simmons thinks we should go for Manny.

"See, another team that should sign him - the Nats. People in DC do not care about that team. At all. Manny doesn't make them more interesting????? They're willing to give Tex 170 million - a guy who has played on bad teams for nearly his entire career - but Manny isn't worth $75m for three? He wouldn't sell tickets? He wouldn't hit?"

Not exactly right, but I still love his columns and that's the first time I've seen him mention the Nats.

That's funny because no one in DC cares about Bill Simmons. At all.

Small world.

I think Adam Dunn snuck into his sportsfans house, stole all his trick coins, and then ate his baseball cards.

Really, it's not like I called him a cock sucker. Now that would be offensive.

Perfectly legal since it was not a compound word.

I have a unibrow so that serves as the hyphen.

I do. He's funny as hell. I don't read him for his serious thoughts,  but rather for his humor.

And he has a completely correct point about Manny. Manny would sell tickets. Would it help the team in the long run? No, but it would sell tickets.

Which we'll need this year to balance out the Phillies and Mets hordes that will overrun our park.

Big deal. No fan really cares about how many tickets actually sell until they need a talking point.

But if tickets don't sell, the owners can claim they don't have money to spend to improve the squad.

That's irrelevant. They have plenty of money regardless of how the attendance goes.

I agree, I'm just saying, your need  to hate on Simmons doesn't really make any sense, considering his argument (it would sell tickets) is true..
