Unless the MLB raises the quota, the Yanks can no longer sign anymore Type-A or Type-B FAs.

and you think that Jesus Flores of the .256 BA and .296 OBP is Godly.

Flores is a catcher.

No doubt but I thought Ramirez had contract option years or something along those lines that guaranteed him 2 more year at 22 per or something along those lines. If so, that's 44 million he flushed down the toilet.

We have ZERO "second tier" players right now. Everyone who doesn't suck on our team either has "potential to be a star" or is too injury prone.

I agree that Dunn isn't a superstar, but there are only so many available each offseason.

That's the way the Orioles did things for 10+ years and look where they are.

Flores is a catcher.

that's not the point, and you know it.

my goal in stating that wasn't to disparage Jesus Flores, but to show sportsfans inherent biases.

We all have them.  What's the point?

He said, offensively, he would prefer Flores to Dunn. Which is inane.

yeah, but most people's inherent biases don't turn into irrational and overbearing hatred for a single baseball player that they don't personally know.

Although he probably believes it (because he hates Dunn so much and loves Flores), I don't believe sportsfan said that.

I know your type uses the "I was quoted out of context" defense all the time so you probably shouldn't be doing that to others, even if what you said was probably right.  :?

Let Manny rot. Turning down 25 million in this economy.
What a selfish jerk.

I'm at the point that I don't care if we sign Dunn anymore. Maybe Marrero will impress at ST.

I realize the Nats may be be a crappy team... but they're my crappy team.

11 days.  11 long, miserable days until pitchers and catchers.

Please God, let me sleep for 11 days.

Manny, oh Manny, I can't believe he turned down a $25 million contract.  If it's because he wanted a multi-year deal, that's one thing (I would've offered two years), but that base salary is as high as he could get.  I don't know how the two sides didn't get a 2yr/$44 million deal done.

Anywho, I highly doubt we offer him $25 million (and I'm not saying that as an insult to the Lerners).  I'd be shocked if anyone gives him anything close to that initial offer.

Just Manny Being Manny.

Adam Dunn Has Offer From Nationals
By Tim Dierkes [February 3 at 10:02am CST]
According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, Adam Dunn received a contract offer from the Nationals.  He's been sitting on it for a while, indicating the Nats are not his top choice.  Jayson Stark has said Dunn prefers the Dodgers, and is waiting to see how the Manny Ramirez situation plays out.

Dunn has been only loosely connected to the Braves and Red Sox.

Who actually wants to come here?

Thanks for the update - that's a sucky sucky thing that we can't get Dunn, unless the offer is terrible.

If this is true I'd like to learn how much they offered.

I don't have that "special" gene but if he is sitting on a decent deal he can go freak himself or we can release Kearns and they can go freak each other.

This would appear to leave Manny for the moment without a team and without a standing offer. And at some point, you’d think, Colletti might have to turn his attention to other options. He could find offense far more inexpensively in Adam Dunn (who might be close to a deal with the Nationals) or Bobby Abreu in the outfield

I wish that guy from Maine was here to confirm this.

Who actually wants to come here?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/02/adam-dunn-has-o.html

so those horribly cheap Lerners currently have had offers out to both Dunn and Hudson now?

and they've both been sitting on them/shopping them around to see if other teams will match?
