Shouldn't we just lock this thread now that it's confirmed we aren't signing any FAs :?

Last time I took a poll on closing a thread (the Tex thread) I got 6-2 in favor and closed it, then people naged about it being closed, probably including some who voted.

The Lerners realized that free agents aren't actually "free" and ran in the opposite direction taking their bag of money with them while pretending they were "serious" about spending.  :?

If Brad Eldred could only take a walk, he'd be a good Plan C or D at first. Dude could easily hit 40 homers.

I know SF has brought this up before and has caught heat, I wouldn't mind having Hinske as a back-up (better option @ 1st than our NJ replacements).  I still would rather have Dunn as our full-time 1B, but considering our other options, I wouldn't mind having Hinske as a back-up plan.  From Heyman:

The Red Sox had been looking at Eric Hinske. But he may not be a perfect fit now that they probably need a centerfielder. Hinske had a terrific year with the Rays in 2008 (20 home runs) but is caught up in a market flooded with power hitters. At least one team in Japan has allegedly shown interest in him.

Vomitous. Hope he signs in Japan.

Vindicator signs with the Mets, as expected.

looks like they won't be looking at Randy Wolf anymore.

good point.  i wonder what teams are still in the wolf sweepstakes?

i think wolf is a good pitcher, but i'd rather get a slugger first, before obtaining another starter.

Good. Redding owes DC as far as I am concerned....he'll probably start paying us back around the sixth inning of every game we face him in.

According to the Mets board it is 1-year, $2.5 Million. Roughly the same we paid for Cabrera. I'd take D-Cab over TVR any day for the same price.

haha TVR I love it!

And yeah NOTLD, Vindicator definitely owes us.  Countless times he'd have a solid first four innings then completely unravel in the 5th and 6th.  Just like his season as a whole.  Started off hot, then sucked.

I'll take the younger option with more potential and a better heater.

It's akin to starting a brand new workout regimen wife, no matter how great you were at the old one, you're going to be sore for a while doing the new one.

Fixed to make it more appealing for Spidey.

haha, Schneider fans will get a kick out of this study done by the New York Daily News.

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2009/01/whats-the-catch.html

Quote
This offseason the Mets were forced to sign K-Rod in view of Billy Wagner's injury and they have replaced Aaron Heilman with J.J. Putz as set up guy. The New York broadcast and print media have bought into the idea that the Mets' failing bullpen was the primary reason for the team's collapse the past two seasons.

We would argue THAT IS NOT THE CASE. Please check below to see that catcher Brian Schneider was the root of the Mets' problems. We mean Schneider no disrespect, but these are unprecedented numbers.
There is one more year on his contract and he should be relegated to playing some first base to rest Carlos Delgado, DHing in interleague games, and pinch-hitting.

These numbers are so stunning it suggests that the unfortunate Schneider was somehow tipping off pitches:

SANCHEZ caught by CASTRO 65 ABs, allows 0 HRs and OPP SLUG%=292
SCHNEIDER 108 ABs, allows 6 HRs and OPP SLUG%=454

HEILMAN caught by CASTRO 50 ABs , allows 0 HRs and OPP SLUG%=340
SCHNEIDER 195 ABs, allows 9 HRs and OPP SLUG%=456

FELICIANO caught by CASTRO 36 ABs, allows 0 HRs and OPP SLUG%=306
SCHNEIDER 134 ABs, allows 6 HRs and OPP SLUG%=455

WAGNER caught by CASTRO 49 ABs, allows 0 HRs and OPP SLUG%=204
SCHNEIDER 99 ABs, allows 3 HRs and OPP SLUG%=313

SANTANA caught by CASTRO 333 ABs, allows 6 HRs and OPP SLUG%=297
SCHNEIDER 524 ABs, allows 15 HRs and OP SLUG%=401

PEDRO M caught by CASTRO 138 ABs, allows 2 HRs and OPP SLUG%=377
SCHNEIDER 185 ABs, allows 15 HRs and OPP SLUG%=600!!!!!

Same phenomena holds with John Maine, Claudio Vargas and Nelson Figueroa. Fascinating, isn’t it?

 But, but I thought Schneider calls a good game?

Fixed

Did they mean, use Schneider to pinch hit and DH in interleague games? If so,

And people were pissed because he was traded away and were calling for bringing him back. Some people just get used to certain players and cannot stand parting ways with them, even if they are bums.

Looking better and better in regards to our chances at signing Hudson

Quote
For those who haven't signed yet, the prices are still falling. I'll reiterate something Boz and I have both put forth here and elsewhere -- this is great for the Nationals. I talked to one executive last week who predicted second baseman Orlando Hudson, one of the free agents the Nationals have targeted, would wind up getting just a one-year guaranteed deal at a low base salary, with incentives and options that could push up the total value. At that price, or even a little steeper, it would be a terrific signing for the Nationals.

Give him a 3 year/25 million deal. I think he might take it.

Look at Feliciano -who is dynamite. 6 HR's with Schneider.
