I wonder if the Nats even have an Organization-wide hitting philosophy.

Lenny Harris was bad Feng-Shui. They have since rearranged the furniture in the locker room and hung crystals.

Probably not - at least not yet.  Again, new owners never having been in this situation before.  That's why Kasten was brought on board and I think our problem lies in Kasten's alleged disdain at his current role.

I think he just meant that Dunn would fit in well with the kind of philosophy that he believes the Nats should be adopting.
That's exactly the case.

MLBTR reports NY Post story that says we may be in the running for Derek Lowe.  Others are speculating the Braves are meeting with him today.  The Mets are still in this thing too.

here we go again with another "Boras uses the Nats to jack up the price" fest.  :?

Lerners, do the smart thing.

make one, overwhelming offer, place a deadline on it, and walk away.

if Lowe really has any real interest in the Nats, he'll call and say "where do I sign".

don't get used again.

IF you really plan on making him and offer:

Lowe rejected 3/36 from the Mets.  Offer him the 3/42 with an optional 4th that he wants, place a week deadline on it, and keep moving.

Wow, I like it! They really are serious about making the team better this offseason.  Unless they fail to sign anyone, I give the Lernastens big props for this offseason.

Just get over it. The Nats are going to be "used" in every FA signing they are involved with.

I'm still feeling burnt by Teixeira.

I gotta think that this "rumor" is just more Boras-floated rubbish to try and get the Mets to pay more.

Agreed. I would rather have Lowe than have to face him multiple times a year if he signs with the Braves or Muts.

Boras picks a patsy every year to drive up his clients prices, and this year it is the Nationals.

I expect to hear more "rumors" about us being interested in both Manny and Oliver Perez in the future. neither of which will even consider signing here for even a second.

Some believe the Nationals could be a suitor for Lowe, the best available starter on the market, given that Washington needs an ace and wasn't shy about entering the Teixeira sweepstakes. The Phillies and Braves also could supersede the Mets' offer for Lowe.

Some believe the earth is flat and some believe in the tooth fairy. I'll believe this when it happens.

You forgot that lowest score wins in baseball, it's like golf.

hey did you know that the Nats were in the bottom 3 in the NL in nearly every offensive category except OBP?

Where did we rank in OBP?

I think these writers just throw our name out there because we were willing to spend big on Tex. They hope something sticks to the wall so they can say that they were right.

I think at this point we're only looking at Dunn and Hudson or looking to make a trade. I would be surprised if we signed a pitcher.

Both the Astros & Nats had OBP of .323. I too lazy to carry it out to 4 decimals.

I would definitely be down for an offseason of Dunn, Lowe (maybe even Hudson if no one else takes him).  That means we don't have to rush Jay Z (and/or if Bally still needs some seasoning).

Would that be in all baseball or just the NL?

I thought we weren't looking to add pitching this offseason.

That plan has obviously changed since nothing has really gone the team's way this off season. Guess you gotta get something done.

We're not. Sounds like another hack just throwing our name out there for no good reason other to have something interesting to write about.

we're getting Boras'd.

the Mets offered 3/36. Lowe wants to play for the Mets but he wants 4/64.  the Mets don't feel they need to raise their bid because nobody else is really a player for Lowe.

thus, Boras calls a reporter and says "the Nats...." hoping that by having the writer mention our name, the Mets will jump and say "ok 4/64".

it's all bullcrap. I'd be shocked if we even contacted Boras about Lowe in the first place.
