and now the "I told you so" begins.

meh.
Yeah. This is the guy who pegged the odds at I can't remember which - either 25% or 55% - yesterday, and now he's saying "Well, duh, it was always obviously permanently zero." And we'll be treated to more! Time to move on to Dunn, fast. :P

The only reason I suggested 25% chance is that we are technically still in the running with 3 other teams. Doesn't mean he's going to come here but stranger things have happened.

I just wish it would end so yes, we could move on to other players.

Does anyone see Boras' recent statement that the 195 million sum was "inaccurate?"

IMO, this looks to me like Boras backpeddling a little bit after the Sox played hardball.......I think it bodes well for the Sox.  Clearly Washington is just a fallback opportunity where he can really cash in is the Sox don't pony up.  At this point, it might not even be worth it....I mean i don't want the Lerners and nats to look totally foolish forking over ridiculous sums just to get this guy.

The big news of the day is that the Lerners look as though they have changed their tune regarding building this club and spending.  I feel good, no matter what happens.

eh  - the Royals had to overpay to get Gil Meche - but KC is much closer to central PA, than it is to DC in terms of fun place to live, and DC is a hell of a lot closer to Baltimore than Boston is - wtf is wrong with all these people? Sleeping in your own bed + the highest offer is STFU. If Tex doesn't take the top offer from Washington, he is an enormous douchebag. freak him and Boras both.

:blah:

No one will answer that question because there is no answer. Why would Tex come play here over Boston, Anaheim, Baltimore, etc? We aren't attractive to FAs at this time especially a big one like Tex that is signing what could be the final contract of his career.

yeah yeah, I get it. he won't. neither will any other player who could possibly improve the team.

so get ready for more Kory Casto and Belliard at first.

I can't wait.

we won't get Dunn either.

if Tex wouldn't come, why would Dunn.

face it, there's absolutely no hope of Washington ever getting even a single player that could possibly improve the team. just gotta hope that what we have plays better than they did last year.

(just taking the sportsfan approach of "nothing positive will ever happen to this team, so why bother thinking about it".)

Casto's the man.

You don't know what you are talking about. And no one has still answered the question.. yawn. Why would Tex come to D.C.?

I've always said that there is a good chance of Dunn coming here. Dunn is used to being on losing teams so he'd fit in good here.

I'm pretty sure I answered the question.

but just in case, lemme put in big letters so it isn't missed.

He won't.

there, you're right. happy?

I apologize for being stupid enough to think positively about it. I should have known better than to think positively about this team, right?  I shoulda took the "He's never going to come here, so why bother talking about it" stance from the get-go like you did. then it could be me saying "I told you so, nyah nyah."

Dunn's gonna have other offers.  and he's not worth overpaying for. but someone will overpay for him, and it won't be us.  and someone else will be willing to let him play OF or DH.  so why would he come here to play 1B?  and besides that, he sucks and is a loser, so why would we want him, right?

huh, it's not that bad over here on the sportsfan side of things.  you can poo-poo on pretty much every decent idea that comes forth, and then overreact(with capital letters, multiple exclamation points, and overblown shock) when something positive does actually happen.

speaking of Dunn:

Quote
According to David Kaplan of WGN Radio and Comcast SportsNet, Adam Dunn's first choice is to play for the Cubs. He's not looking for a huge deal, but a fair one.  The concern, of course, would be having Dunn play right field on a regular basis.

from MLBTR.

so if the Cubs make him a half-decent offer to play OF, why would he come here instead to play 1B?

I think that could end up being the case. I think he'd concede a few million to play with Anaheim or Boston.

What is so hard to understand about us not being an attractive target for prime free agents? We can't force players to sign here.

If Boston and Anaheim are still the top teams in 10 years - then something is seriously wrong and I might give up on baseball. Look at how the Yankees fell. No team can be dominant for 10 years. Good, maybe great, for 10 years. What a short-sighted perspective.

I'm pretty sure I'm agreeing with you here.  so what are you nagging about?

Neither Tex, Dunn or any free agent actually worth signing will come here.

maybe we can convince Kevin Millar to come play 1B for us if we grovel enough. maybe. *shrug*

 Alright, i could go back some pages and quote some of your surprised happiness about the sox out of the running, maybe.

Teixeira wouldnt come here because we suck, is that what you want me to say? To prove that we are horrible? Yea we are. But thats why we want Teixeira. To IMPROVE. But there is one reason, maybe two, hed come here: MONEY and HOMETOWN. Your "i told your so" attitude is so awful to read becasue your just waiting for it to happen to be the correct one here. Your entitled to your opinion, but don't go around spreading it like the bible trying to change everyone to agree.

If he comes here, which he still may seeing he hasnt signed anywhere else, why? Because obviously we have the highest bid. If anyone else did, according to your logic, he'd sign there asap because he wants to avoid us. Same things happening in this case but we have the money down. Boras is stalling, and Tex can't sign until Boras gives him the go ahead. I give it another week and if no one increases there offer, he may come here depending on the price difference.

that's the sportsfan MO.

crap on every idea, tell everyone that it'll never happen and that they are all stupid for thinking that there is even the smallest chance that it might.

and then SAYING OMG I'M SO HAPPY IN CAPITAL LETTERS AND LOTS OF !!!!!!!!!!!!!! when it looks like there might actually be a significant chance of it happening.

and then saying "hmph. I told you it would never happen" when the chance passes and nothing happens.

I got skills like that.

I do seriously doubt that we can land Dunn now though.  we should have had preliminary numbers out to him already.

he wants to go to the Cubs, and for reasonable money. the Cubs'll take him. we'll have to drastically overpay even for Dunn. and he's not worth overpaying for.

but I'm not holding my breath on it.

There is one reason and one reason only and it is the same reason most players end up in a lot of places it is called money. When Glavine went to the Mets he wanted to take the lower offer from the Braves but the union discourged it and Glavine was a union man. Boras wants his money too and his clients will go where the money is. When this is all over we will get thr truth or closer to it about what happenned so we will be able to make better judgments then.
