Be careful, NOTLD.  I dared knock Zimmerman for the same thing a while ago (his slow starts), and I got a whole lot of "HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE FACE OF THE FRANCHISE" remarks.

We should never insult those who are canonized around these parts!

This is getting ridiculously out of control. We have over 50 pages of reports coming out every hour or so saying essentially the same thing. But it's sort of funny though.

That still is no excuse for Zimmerman.

And if that is true, this team is always going to be battling uphill.

He has a career .AVG of .259, w/ a total of 19 HR, 64 RBI in April as opposed to other months where he has at least 26 HRs and 100 RBIs.

Ken Rosenthal says we're also interested in Raul Ibanez in case we don't land Teixeira.

 :spaz:

I have no interest in him at all. If we don't get Tex...let's make a hard push for a trade with San Diego for Gonzalez.

And just so you know I'm talking about Teixeira.  Didn't mention a thing about Zimmerman.

Dude, if he hits an average of 19 homers every April, who the hell is complaining?

No doubt.

BTW, as good as Teixeira has been, all this hysteria has elevated his game to legendary status.

He doesn't average 19 homers per April, that's what he has all-time.  And all I was doing is pointing it out that Teixeira generally starts off slow.

"Brown and Edes say the Angels were told the Red Sox and Nationals offered eight years at about $20MM per.  The Angels don't want to do an eighth year, so they'll look into trades for Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko, and possibly Adrian Beltre.  Raul Ibanez is the top free agent backup plan."

If true, that means there out?

But eh, just another rumor.

Also

"Brown and Edes believe Boras could insist on an opt-out clause in a deal with the Nationals."

Does anyone know if Tex was in Vegas? For all we know, he could be over Angelos' house right now sipping some Cognac and waiting for MacPhail to land!

Tex is a slow starter. If you look at his stats last season, he only had 4 homers in March and April. His average was also hovering in the mid 200's for most of the month of April. He really turned it on around the middle of July and was red hot from that point on.

Yeah, this thread is freaking hilarious.

I went to my class for a few hours to deliver my speech and then I came back here and there were like 2-3 more pages worth of posts in the Tex thread.

A lot of players are slow starters during to the colder months. Once the heat comes out, they start tearing the cover off the ball.

And they all pretty much say "so and so is reporting that we offered this much and that team offered that much so we're still serious players...."  It's lovely.

You see, you can tell that is a lie because no one in Baltimore can afford Cognac.

I think some people on this board really hate Nationals fans.  There is an anti-Nats bias on this board.

Zimmerman hasn't event approached the level of Teixiera. And in terms of starting slow, there is little comparison when Zimmerman's OBP for the first half of the last two seasons has struggled to reach .300.

2007 1st half OBP/OPS
RZ:  .302/.737
MT: .394/.954

2008 1st half OBP/OPS
RZ: .291/.718
MT: .373/.858

Career
RZ: .318/.767
MT: .366/.877

I'll take Tex's "slow starts" any day. If we land him and he isn't batting 3rd, they are nuts.
