swap Guzman and Milledge, and you are set.
Guzman doesn't have much speed though.
Milledge can steal 30 bags at least

8:59am: Mike DiGiovanna says the Angels "are believed to be willing to offer at least seven years for something in the $160-million range" for Tex.

looks like the Nats are still the high on years, but even on Money.

I would say swap Dukes and Guzman, but then again I'm a Guzman hater (i.e. I think last year was a career year)
I like Dukes after Tex because he can start another rally or extend one.
That is the kind of lineup that back-to-back HRs might happen often.

There is not one safe spot in that lineup except for maybe Hernandez, but that is yet to be determined.

Teixeira can wait. The only team with a deadline is the Angels. I think he'll get his 10 years.

Are they really going to commit half a BILLION dollars to Tex, Burnett, and Sabathia. That's insanity.

I'll be pissed if the Nats don't up their offer to 10years/$200M. "The Plan" is based upon developing your own talent (read cheap). I don't see another difference maker becoming a free agent in the near future. And the Nats get $25M a year from Peter Angelos and nothing would please me more than to stick it to him.

I personally think the Yanks are trying to make sure that the Red Sox don't get him

all the more reason for MLB to go to a salary cap.

I've never favored a salary cap, but if this happens, there is something seriously wrong with competitive balance

A salary cap is sooooo needed. I get tired of the Yanks trying to buy a world series every year.

again, I think we're being played.

I think the Red Sox were the primary Tex target all along, and everything else is just smoke and mirrors to convince the Sox to give Tex what he wants.

I'd be in favor of no salary cap if they upped the luxury tax percentage and lowered the threshhold to $100 MM.  If you can't get to $100 MM in payroll and you're being subsidized by a 150% luxury tax on those teams that are AND you still can't field a competitive team - you're a deadbeat owner.

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Nats offer is solid and according to Stark is the the one Texiera picks. Several factors working in Nats favor, apparently the Lerner-Stans plan to roll out the red carpet for this guy, he will be "show cased" all around town and be considered the face of the franchise.

I'm working on getting a link to confirm this.

I think they want Tex to go to the Red Sox, because they are worried about Manny
Boras wants us to get Manny as a consolation prize. He knows that no one else really wants him.

I don't think any player is worth a 10 YEAR contract.  OMG, something could happen to him half way thru and he would be on our books preventing any other progress.

I think 8/200 with a no-trade and 5-year Opt-out gets it done.

that's 25 per year.

Insanity?  They had over $80m in annual salaries come off the books with the conclusion of the season - think Abreu, Mussina, Giambi, and CC only adds just over $20.  They've got tons of cash burning a hole in their pockets.
