Insanity?  They had over $80m in annual salaries come off the books with the conclusion of the season - think Abreu, Mussina, Giambi, and CC only adds just over $20.  They've got tons of cash burning a hole in their pockets.

Doesn't YES pay them half a bil for broadcast rights?

Because ESPN just said so.

froom what I read, Espn had nothing to do with it. apparently his inside source sent him a text message that said Tex was going to Boston.

it's all hearsay though.

That inside source was either Jayson Stark or a dude watching Sportscenter

this was posted on Nats Journal by a commenter:

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Nats offer is solid and according to Stark is the one Texiera picks. Several factors working in Nats favor, apparently the Lerner-Stans plan to roll out the red carpet for this guy, he will be "show cased" all around town and be considered the face of the franchise.

I'm working on getting a link to confirm this.

Perhaps Tex was looming around WNFF and saw your catchy avatar!

I think they want Tex to go to the Red Sox, because they are worried about Manny
Boras wants us to get Manny as a consolation prize. He knows that no one else really wants him.

F That...we don't want no stinkin Manny.

If he comes to DC, we'll hook him up with the chick in MrMadison's avatar. I think she's only about 70 now. She'll probably welcome the attention from a younger man.

so all the talking heads on espn and across the web all acknowledge the nats made a serious offer and are players in the sweepstakes, but most think he'll land with the sawx.

if this was just for show - on the lerners part - i'll be angry.  hopefully if boston ups our offer, we do them one better.

well honestly, that's all we can really hope for and expect really.  to make a serious offer and have a seat at the table.

the rest is on Tex. if he decides to go elsewhere, I won't be mad at the Lerners for this.  they did what they were supposed to do, they put down the high bid.

Why don't you just admit that you will never be satisfied.

And if it's true that "Tex wants to go to DC and Boras wants him to go to Boston" as has been suggested, then I really won't be mad at the Lerners for losing him.

Except that this is Scott Boras. He owns the highway. And all the other ways.

Is everyone forgetting that A-Rod kicked Boras to the curb when he re-negotiated with the Yankees?  That had to sting, and I'm sure Boras is not eager to antagonize another highly visible star client to the point where he suffers a repeat embarassment.

See, this just makes me frustrated.  Isn't it ultimately up to the player?  Everything I've read about Tex is how he's very businesslike and thoughtful, doesn't do anything lightly or haphazardly, I can't think he'd be like a 9 year boy wanting an ice cream cone going "but, but, but...I really wanna" and Boras is like the dad saying "now son...I know what's best for you."  Didn't Kasten circumvent Boras before when he was negotiating with Andruw Jones back in the day?  If Lerner/Kasten/Bowden know he want's to come can't they go over Boras' head like he's been doing to the GM's?  There's more than one way to play hardball/skin a cat.

Its also entirely possible that Tex just wants the money and is letting Boras do the dirty work - that is an agent's job

If that's true -- then he'll be in DC, because of right now (according to "sources") DC has the highest offer-- it is Boras reputation to have his clients sign for the highest dollar -- so there's still hope -- I'm more than satisfied with the effort -- if he comes here fantastic -- if not, it's not because we didn't give it our best shot

LA is talking to Plan B's for 1B right now. foremost of which is Raul Ibanez. according to MLBTR.

I hope we've made contact with Dunn, or we've been working on a "just in case" trade.

If they were willing to cough up that kind of money for Teixeira then there should be no problem spreading that money around to acquire a couple other pieces. That's how we'll really know they were serious about spending.
