The only think I worry about is no team has one it all with one player making over 15% of the team's payroll. (at least that was true up to a few years ago and I can't think of a team that won in the past few years to change that) If we get him and increase our payroll to match great; if we get him and use that as an excuse to trade away rather than resign guys in arbitration (Zimmerman particullarly) then I'd rather get someone cheaper.
This is true but after the '09 season, the Nats lose $18.5M in salaries from Johnson,Young and Kearns. So front load the contract for the first three years,then back it down over the remaing 7. That way you aren't interfering with signing "homegrown" talent, Zimmerman,Lannan, etc...
