From a Washington Times article in 2005, the fees per subscriber being demanded by MASN were in excess of $2 per month, so it is not at all implausible that they are getting at least $1 now.

Quote
In recent weeks, Cox executives have cited excessive proposed fees from MASN as their reason not to carry the network, with MASN's compensation demand believed to exceed $2 a subscriber. Such a rate would rank among the highest programming fees of any cable outlet. The Orioles, however, offered Comcast's rate be set by an independent arbitrator. The proposal was made earlier this month in an Orioles petition to the Federal Communication Commission asking for a ruling to force Comcast to carry MASN.

Acourding to the bottom link,NESN is recieving in excess of $83M/yr from the 4.2M subscribers. I would question the subscriber numbers, that looks low to me.

So they're getting $1.65 per month per subscriber, if true.

The article said between $1.70 and $2.20 I went for the lower number.

1.70 with 5.2 million subscribers for 12 months would be 109 million, but they also have to pay to license other sports (NASCAR, NCAA Football and Basketball...) not to mention over head.

Sure, but typically ad revenue covers much of the licensing costs.

They should sell those AngelOs Sucks shirts at Nats Park and use any extra revenue from that to sign Teixeira.

Hell, they could have a stand somewhere close to Oriole Park and sell the shirt there, as well.

Boras: I've got offers for Teixeira
10:19 AM, November 25, 2008

While the Angels have not made an offer to Mark Teixeira, his agent says other teams have.

"We've received a number of offers," agent Scott Boras said.

Boras would not say which teams had extended offers, or even how many. He characterized the offers as bids Teixeira had the right to accept, as opposed to informal discussions about contract parameters without firm offers attached.

He declined to set a timetable for Teixeira's decision.

The Angels identified Teixeira as their top off-season priority, but they have not made a bid because the franchise is unwilling to offer the requested 10 years. It is uncertain whether any of the bids Boras says he has are for 10 years. No team has confirmed making an offer to Teixeira, although the Red Sox, Orioles and Nationals are expected to pursue him.

Teixiera rejected an eight-year, $140-million offer from the Texas Rangers in 2007, according to Rangers owner Tom Hicks.

The Angels are stepping back away from Tex for the moment.  And, the Orioles are reputed to have put out an offer for Burnett.  That leaves the Nats and Red Sox as the serious players for the moment.

:| if we lose to the red sox i'm giving up on baseball.  trust me i'm not optimistic on the nats chances of landing teixeira, but if we're gonna lose him i'd much rather it be to anyone else but the red sox (and of course anyone in NL east, but thankfully they aren't in the running as of now).

First Full Term Pregnancy? Of course, that cannot be what SpiderNat meant because it would be sexist.

Perhaps Metssuck could weigh in on that topic.

Boras Has Offers For Teixeira
from MLB Trade Rumors by Tim Dierkes

According to Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times, Scott Boras has received "a number of offers" for Mark Teixeira.  These are formal offers that Tex has the right to accept.  The Angels haven't made an offer; we can only speculate on which clubs did submit early bids.

I'm guessing we're one of the teams that made an offer.

You know if teams are backing off then Boras and Tex have reached a decsion and it all comes down to waiting until the winter meetings to anounce it. By reading through the smokescreen and by what information has been given us the offers are from the Nationals and Red Sox and they are just waiting for the timing to say who won. Or some team that was never reported to be in the running made a gigantic offer and Texieria is a Blue Jay or something.

This does happen on occasion, Torii Hunter for example.

It's been discussed for weeks now, but what do you see the pros and cons of playing for a team like the Nats vs. a team like the Red Sox

Nats - Pros
>Face of the franchise
>Less pressure
>Around younger talent
>Hometown hero
>NL East competition
>All the money in the world

Nats - Cons
>Not a lock you're a contender
>Around younger talent
>Part of an organization that really hasn't made it's mark (and some people still think we're the Expos)

This was the first that I heard that teams had actually made offers.

I was just giving you a hard time.  I posted it yesterday

And I'm assuming we're one of the teams.
