I would explain that his FIP suggests that his ERA ought to regress, especially when one considers the correlation between fastball velocity and FIP. Or I'd tell the 6 year old that he's learning, just like you are, so he can be better in the future 
I'd rather have a ventilator put back in without anesthesia than do any of that crap.
