That's excellent...I wonder what "Capitals" looks like in Cyrillic?

Karl Alzner, the Caps 5th overall pick, was named WHL player of year and top defenseman.

Nice to know we have even more top young talent coming up.

Hubby ordered me my very own Caps jersey on ebay that should show up any day, I can't wait to wear it to a Caps game next season!! This team is only going to get better.

Who are you guys rooting for to win the Stanley Cup? I'm rooting for the Flyers. I'm one of those people that usually wants the team that knocked my team out to win it all. It kinda makes me feel better.

I know what you mean, but I just can't bring myself to root for the Flyers...or the Penguins.  And I hate the Stars, so I guess that leaves Detroit.  The Red Wings' mean age must be about double that of any other team in the NHL, which is kind of neat...Chelios can probably remember the invention of the steam engine.

Nope. Can't root for those Philthy Flyers...no can haz. The fact they bumped my team out (and questionably at that) is EXACTLY the reason I want them to lose.

Stars or Wings. I could never cheer for a team from Philly and though I have respect for the Pens, I really hate how the NHL is trying to make Crosby and Malkin to be bigger than they are.

Amen

I hate all the teams in competition this year, but above all there is one team that is not allowed to in:

The Pittsburgh Penguins. I hate them. especially how they make everyone think crosby is the next gretzky. some say he might be. i say no because:

1. i'd like him to play for more games than he misses due to injury.
2. when he starts scoring goals outside of tapins from two feet that the goalie can't see.
3. he stops passing it to Hossa or Malkin (on the PK i might add) and starts making lesser players look good.

Caps re-sign Matt Bradley to a 3-year, $3 Million dollar deal. Not bad. Bradley really turned it on over the second half of last season. He's got good speed and is pretty tough.

I hope Huet's deal is on the horizon.

Bradley's deal could be even better if he got better at fighting. Take some classes or something.  That 4th line of Brashear, Bradley, and Steckel, was our best at times in the playoffs

I guess this means that Cooke is probably gone...he's a UFA anyways, so it is probably inevitable.

Ovechkin: Fedorov Wants to Stay

Alex Ovechkin said moments ago that he talked to pending unrestricted free agent Sergei Fedorov during the world championships about the 38-year-old playing at least one more year in Washington.

Ovechkin liked Fedorov's answer.

"I talked to him, and I know for sure [that] he wants to stay in Washington," Ovechkin said on an NHL conference call from Pittsburgh, where he'll be presented with the Art Ross and Maurice "Rocket" Richard trophies this afternoon. "It's not my job to talk about money and how many years he wants to be there, that's [for] George and Fedorov's agent. He wants to play -- not just with me -- but with [the] Capitals."

I pressed Ovechkin for some additional details about his conversation with Fedorov. But in typical Ovechkin fashion (when it comes to talking publicly about sensitive subjects) he wouldn't reveal much.

"It's a secret," he said with a chuckle. "But he wants to stay."

So it sounds like Fedorov isn't planning to retire. Whether he'll accept a discount to come back to the Caps, well, that remains to be seen.

I'd definitely re-sign Federov if he's planning on playing another year.

what more details could ovechkin be pressed for? he certainly spilled the beans.

good to hear.  hopefully federov will take a discount or at least have Ovechkin throw him a couple mil since he is eating up the salary cap by himself, which he is entitled to do.

The Yahoo hockey blog is reporting that an Alex Ovechkin Hart Trophy winner commemorative t-shirt appeared briefly on the NHL website (before being abruptly yanked), even though the winner has not been officially announced yet...read into that what you will.  Not that there is a whole lot of doubt about AO winning the Hart, Malkin's team making the Finals notwithstanding.

so far in the awards ceremony, Ovechkin has won the Pearson, awarded to the NHL's most outstanding player, Boudreau won the Adams for best coach, and Nicklas Lidstrom did not win the Calder for rookie of the year, sadly.

Boudreau won?! That's freaking awesome!

(I think you meant Nicklas Backstrom :))

Think I'll take the day off and go watch the Wilson Bldg ceremony...I cannot recall a mayor of this city ever paying the slightest attention to the Caps, so this is something.
