sign soto for 1B

sign sasaki for the rotation

sign santander for DH or trade Morales, Wallace, and one of Cavalli/herz/parker for Vlad Jr for DH

RF Crews
LF Wood
1B Soto
DH Vlad/Santander
SS Abrams
2B Garcia
3B Tena/House(eventually)
C Ruiz
CF Young

Sasaki, Gore, Irvin, and two out of the parker/herz/cavalli/lord/lara/gray group

Soto aint playing first.

Sasaki's age and expeirence means he is under MLB's IFA bonus pool rules. Which basically means that every team in baseball can afford him because his bonus will under 10 million. So hes going to the Dodgers to play with Shoei

Small sample size says hello.

It's what we do here...IF it fits our narrative...

7 of the 10 players in playing today are rookies: Crews, Wood, Young, Chaparra, Tena, Millas, and Herz.

Has Jose Tena earned his own thread?

I think should have a "Are they for real?" thread for Tena, Salazar, Chapparo, and others.

Tena and Chaparro have certainly earned a chance to contend for a spot next year.

Why do we think House is more likely to end up at first rather than Tena or Wallace? Is his glove no longer seen as good enough for third?

Because House is the only one whose bat will play at first.

Also, Wallace's best tools are arm and defense.

I need a much bigger Tena sample size before I move Brady House off third.

But if House and Tena are both hitting their spots, probably time to start experimenting with Cayden Wallace at other positions.

If both House and Tena hit, House gets 3rd. If Tena doesn't have a 1B bat, then you eventually replace him but you play the better defender at the more difficult position

This team is in a lot of trouble if either House or Tena are making a lot of starts at 1B.

I agree. House has always had a high OBP in the minors until this year. Hopefully that's a one-off.

His high OBPs were a function of a high average. His walk rate is like ~4%

Its the biggest reason I wanted to call him up. He needs to fail a lot to see that his approach needs to change.

I do wonder if there's a guy who we've assumed is a starting position player next year that gets moved as part of deal for a major pitcher. Abrams / Garcia / Young ...  An Abrams or Garcia trade probably means signing a shortstop (e.g., Kim) while a Young deal would move Crews or Wood out of a corner. A Young deal might make sense if Soto signed, for example.

I was thinking the same thing.  What could a package of Garcia, young, and Herz net us?  Could be of interest to a cost conscious but going for it team luke the rays or pirates.  Mclanahan, springs, Jared jones, crotchet even?  Obviously, for some of the guys the package would be a starting point, but young and Garcia re nothing to sneeze at.  Both are contributors right now.  Tena could backfill 2B and we have enough arms that we could deal a couple out of the Herz/parker/cavalli/lord/lara group

I fully expect another Gio type trade to lock down a 1B/DH. We've got the outfield prospects to deal.

1B/DH bats are always available in free agency.  Of course DH doesn’t have to field at all, and you can stick a lot of guys who can’t play elsewhere at 1B.  I don’t see why the Nats would have to trade for someone there.

If a trade is to be made, I’d expect it to be for a frontline SP.  The Nats would need it to be someone with at least 3 years control I’d say, and if they truly have frontline ability, that’s going to take a major, major package.  Trading CJ in such a package is interesting.

Springs is the only realistic option for that package, and I dont think the Rays would be interested in Garcia or Young.

Slate pitched the idea of trading for Crochet, which would make a ton of sense so long as it wouldn't cost us Wood, Crews, or House IMHO.

with Young, they could relive the glory days of Kiermaier.

The White Sox are so, so far away that they will only want prospects yet to debut or with only maybe a year of service time.  We’d have to give up House and probably another 3 prospects of their choice, and that’s probably not enough.

What does a Doug Fister (4.0 WAR) - Lombardozzi, Ray, Krol trade look like if it was for Crochet today? Ferrer, Baker/Alu, and Susana? I'd do it!

Four quarters doesn't equal a dollar. I'm fine moving some nice pieces for really good piece. Unlike even a year ago, I think the Nationals finally have enough assets that I think we can move a few and still have options at those positions.

Except they have him in Siri. And they have Chandler Simpson raking in Double A.

Rays will want guys they dont have to put in the 40 man roster right away. Maybe they want Garcianat 2B, but they have Richie Palacios posting am above average wRC+ and isnt eligible for arbitration until after next season. I mean, maybe they think he could play a passable shortstop, but if thats the case, we should keep him and swap him and Abrams.

A Rays deal would involve either a third team or non 40 man prospects like Lile and Lara

I buy what you are saying. I forget the deal you pitched for Springs, but it did not involve Young, Garcia or Abrams (or House).

The deal I pitched was also getting Soto. In that case, unless Soto agrees to be a DH, the Young is trade bait to a team like the Pirates, and the big return in that would be used to get a veteran pitcher.
