O'Neill is also Boras, who has a skill at getting the Lerners to loosen their grip on their wallets.
$35M is the luxury tax calc which is higher than the cash payment due to deferrals. His contract is $160m cash for 7 years, or $23.57M from 2020 through 2026, then $80m cash for 3 years, or $26.67M per year for '27,'28, and '29.Whoever they sign in the offseason there can't be anymore deferrals like this. That would almost guarantee yet another 5 year rebuild/salary dump period in the first half of the 2030s.
Wow that's nuts. I agree, they should lay off these deferrals type of deals, as they are just mortgaging the future by engaging in them.
They always planned to sell and dump the deferrals on the next owner. Who knew other billionaires would be too smart for that.
Nunez has a career .358 minor league obp. Over .370 combined in 2022 and 2023. With his speed, could he be a lead off hitter? Add in his defense, and you could definitely argue he should start at SS next year
I just think it would take a month for teams to realize that he can't hit, and the walks would dry up. Also, you're basically punting the 8 and 9 hitters on a team that desperately needs offense, and particularly power. This team needs to add at least 50 home runs next season.
Hold off on Garrett a bit. He had a bad year in the minors. Not all was recovery
Haha yeah, I guess these deferrals don't look too good on the team's balance sheet when the time comes to sell.
With the mid-contract Werth adjustment, the Lerners have never done a $100 million+ contract without deferrals. And given the dysfunctional way the team has been run the last couple years, doubt they've changed their ways. Therefore, this will likely be another offseason of either not spending, or deferring spend into the distant future.
The offer to Soto had no deferrals. So they were willing. That was before the attempt to sell though so we shall see this off-season. I am sure if they enter into one big contract you will find something wrong with it.
The details of the Soto offer were not made public. But keep those low expectations going, more fuel for Lerner dysfunction and cheapness.
Sure just keep typing away nonsense. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/41193837/2024-mlb-playoffs-juan-soto-new-york-yankees-free-agent-future-october-postseason
Hahaha, you post some random article that doesn't prove a thing, and add a personal attack. You make me laugh.
