Commanders signing Marcus Mariota to a one-year deal. Could mean that they envision trading Howell if they pick a QB in the first round?

Who is trading for Howell?

I think Mariota is cooked.

The only team i can think of right now that could use a starting QB

Mac Jones just got the Patriots a 6th round pick. Howell should be worth at least that much.

Farewell Sam Howell, enjoy Seattle.

I guess this means Drake Maye?

I don’t think they’ll trade up, but some folks do speculate that they’ll do so to draft Williams. If they stay at 2, could be Maye or Daniels. So many differing opinions on both of those guys.

For anyone wondering about the hit rate for QBs taken number 2

https://www.hogshaven.com/2024/3/24/24110355/what-is-the-washington-commanders-chance-of-hitting-on-a-franchise-qb-with-their-first-round-pick?

The Redskins' last four quarterbacks taken in the first round don't have the most sterling resumes:

Heath Shuler (#3 overall in 1994)
Patrick Ramsey (#32 overall in 2002, pick originally New England's)
Robert Griffin (#2 overall in 2012, pick originally the Rams')
Dwayne Haskins (#15 overall in 2019)

Prior to those four, their most recent first-round quarterback was Norm Snead in 1961; they traded him to the Eagles after one very bad year, but on the plus side, that trade got the Redskins some guy named Christian Adolph Jurgensen III. In the two years before the Snead pick, they also took quarterbacks, but neither one ever played for the Redskins as both signed with the AFL.

Before the pick is announced, I’ll go on record as saying three months ago I was all I on Jayden Daniels. But I’ve psyched myself out on him, probably overrating the risks that he may be too slim and will take too many sacks, like Howell. I’m in on Drake Maye, who I think has unlimited potential.

We shall see!

You forgot Jason Campbell!

Damn. Indeed I did. He was missing from the chart I saw, probably because they had two first-round picks that year. Compared to the others on that list above, I’d say he worked out the best even if his stay was relatively short.

You want a really difficult Sporcle quiz, try the one that asks you to name every Redskins starting quarterback since 1970. I managed to get 100 percent, but there are some very obscure names—and I noted, as did one of the commenters, that one starter was omitted.

Oh, an athletic, running QB who "throws a good deep ball"

Seeing him in a suit, I’m worried a DE is going to break him. He’d look scrawny as a high school qb.

Time will tell and all, but if Cooper DeJean ends up terrorizing Washington offenses for years to come, then Adam Peters just made his first major blunder as GM.

I agree.   Dejean could be the best player in this draft

The Michigan CB they picked is getting rave reviews, Saban called him possibly the best athlete in the draft.

They rave about all these guys on the draft shows.  No reason to get overly excited.

Kiper on round two:
Quote
New GM Adam Peters landed a game-wrecker for the middle of his defense. He got the best slot corner in this class. And he got my second-ranked tight end, a player who could make plays in the pass game and block his butt off in the run game. This is a home run Round 2 class for the Commanders, which entered this draft with a lot of holes.

Kiper listed the Eagles and Commnaders as two of the four teams who crushed day two. FWIW

It’s random. The teams know it’s random. The pundits (at least the good ones) know it’s random. We still grade away the day after

It would seem this GM doesnt care about the offensive line either
