Braves seemed to have a lock on first wild card.  But now AZ and SD have gotten hot and taken the first two. Mets may be in the third slot after today.

Braves aren’t getting the first wildcard.   That team is spiraling

Fangraphs and ESPN have them at a 79% chance of making the playoffs.  Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers, Padres, and Diamondbacks are all >90%.  6th playoff spot has made the pennant races boring.

Austin Riley broken hand. Out at least the rest of the regular season.

Have fun. I’ll get there sometime. Maybe next year.

The Jesse Winker effect (the only player we traded who is actually performing well)

For Vic's sake, I hope he has another good season next year and it proves he was a change of scenery guy. My dumb brain says he will flame out like Nyjer Morgan did. One good half season, followed by a lousy one, wears out his welcome, gets traded, has a hot season, flames out, repeat.

Guessing that's likely, as he has a multi-year deal with the M's...

Mets and Braves now in a tie for the last WC spot, both a game and a half behind the D-backs.

Throwing Irvin, Parker, and Herz at the Mets this week.

Irvin has pitched twice against the Mets, 1-1, 3.86 ERA, 14 IP. The Mets hit 10 for 52 with 3 BBs and 2 HRs. OPS of .544. IIRC, this might have been one of those losses that came from pushing him an extra inning.
Parker was shelled his only start (5 ER in 6 IP), .913 OPS with 3 HRs.
Herz is 0-1 in 2 starts, 4.66 ERA in 9.2 IP, 13 Ks, 2 BB, 2 HR, 3 2Bs, 12 H. OPS of .838.

Could be a tough series for them, especially on the road. But at least the Nats took the 3 of 4 they were supposed to from the Marlins.

Irvin I think may pick up a win. I'd be happy with 1 win up there.

As for the 4 with the Cubs, they are pretty much toast, so maybe can work a split? Williams is likely to start a game.

Braves-Royals game just started. Reynaldo Loez begins with a K. Neither Giolito nor Lopez pitching for the White Sox. Who was the other guy? How has Rizzo won so many trades? Bob and Frannie showed Steven Souza, Jr catching that last fly ball in Jordan Zimmermann's no-hitter. Souza became Trea Turner and Joe Ross.

Since Arizona won and the Mets lost, Atlanta and NY will need to play the full doubleheader tomorrow.

If either team sweeps, then the sweeping team and Arizona is in. If not, both the Mets and Braves are in.

It seems almost impossible that it would be anything but a split.   The winning team isn't going to want to pitch anyone on the playoff roster in game 2.   They will already have used more pitchers than they wanted to in the first game.
