Thats not great. He'll miss most of this season, could even need surgery to fully repair.

This says 2-4 weeks.  But what do they know at Harvard.

It is a sprain not a tear. Time heals so no surgery plus he will have PT daily and should have been in great condition. I could be wrong on my next statement but sprains are graded 1-3. I don’t remember which is the most acute but I’ll guess #3

https://www.mlb.com/nationals/news/lane-thomas-goes-on-il-before-nationals-loss-to-dodgers

More on Thomas's injury. They are spinning it as mild/ good news relative to the possibilities.

Quote
WASHINGTON -- Lane Thomas and the Nationals were relieved when they received the results of the outfielder’s left knee MRI on Wednesday. Following a period of uncertainty, the diagnosis of a Grade 2 MCL sprain was an encouraging outcome.

"Best-case scenario, really,” said manager Dave Martinez.

Echoed Thomas, “I definitely think it could have been a lot worse.”
...
“The initial pain was pretty intense, but it kind of went away quick,” Thomas said. “I feel like I’ve had a pretty high pain tolerance in the past. … Sometimes [with] those things, your adrenaline, you don’t really know what’s going on until a few hours after when you settle down.”

I'm somebody who likes foot-first slides as a general matter and wished more players slid that way, both because it generally is safer and it's also more intimidating to MIs who try to obstruct. Therefore, it's ironic / disappointing that one of the few players who still slides that way got hurt in a foot first slide.

With a grade 2 MCL tear, the ligament is moderately damaged with a partial tear, and you might notice your knee is loose. This type of injury is usually quite painful and accompanied by tenderness and swelling of your knee. In some cases, you might need surgery to recover from a grade 2 tear.

A grade 2 (moderate) MCL tear generally takes four to six weeks to heal with treatment.

No way he's ready for baseball in 2-4 weeks. This is gonna be two months, easy. Especially with this training staff

You said he would miss most of the season. So you want to go with that or something lower?

Gallo to the 10-day IL is the corresponding move for Call. Left shoulder AC sprain.

Which of course means we get to see more Edwin Rosario!

The injury to Gallo was due to an overabundance of swings and misses.

Gray throwing up to 120 feet now. Davey says he might get a light bullpen this week.

And who does he replace in the rotation? Corbin or does dm go to a six man to save some young arms?

Its a pertinent question.

The problem is that Gray, Gore, and Irvin all need to get to ~175 innings this year. 6 pitcher rotation might preclude that.

Even more so, Cavalli is up in June, so you might end up with a six pitcher rotation then.

Tanner Rainey and Matt Barnes seem pretty DFA-able. You could always DFA one of them and put Corbin in the pen. Gives the Nats a legit long man option

Robert Garcia also rehabbing at Fredricksburg tonight.

Gray is ready to start throwing off a mound.

latest out of Nats "stay calm, all is well" injury updates not mentioned in the past few posts include:

Quote
Robles (left hamstring strain) “looks like he’s running really well” in his rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester, manager Dave Martinez said. Agility is a key aspect of the athletic outfielder’s return from injury. When Robles is cleared to rejoin the Nationals, Martinez expects the two-time Gold Glove Award finalist to play right field in addition to his traditional center field role.

Makes sense with Thomas's injury and the way Young is playing before the spasms. I think his arm is stronger than Young's as well.
