Pineda clears waivers and is outrighted to Rochester. I expect he will get an invite to MLB camp.

I also have to believe that both Gsellman and Bleier will get NRIs.

So very much sadness with this...

Is there a site somewhere that might list how much more that the duo of Strasburg and Corbin will make than the remaining 38 or 24 players on those respective rosters...as it sits at present?

If dave's greatest praise of Corbin is that he takes the ball every 5 days...someone let him know that for just a fraction of what he makes, I'd gladly do the same...

Broke out the extensive discussion of the Nats payroll obligations into its own thread, along with a Kinks tribute.

4-0, 2.08 ERA for Davies at Nats park career. Seems like a no-risk potentially high upside signing. Only 31 and coming off a lost year with injuries.

Lot of pitchers have put those numbers up at Nats Park the last few years.  Davies had a 7.00 ERA last year to go along with a 90 mph fastball, and has averaged nearly 1 walk every 2 innings across the last 3 seasons.  This is Rizzo "waiting for the market to come to us" and scraping the bottom of the bargain bin to fit Mini Me's budget.   But maybe Davies will turn it around with Strasburg's ST mentoring.

Could he be better than Williams? Could the team be better off with Davies in the rotation, Williams as long man, and Adon and Rutledge in the Rochester rotation? Both of those are possible.

I just dont see Rizzo promising a guy a position and then pulling the rug out. Not without an opportunity

April - August is basically an extension of 2023.

You talking about Williams and the promise to start, or Davies and whatever word he was given when he signed? Davies didn't sign here without a shot at the rotation. Maybe it's Irvin's slot, maybe it's first one up after injuries. They will also need a slot for Cavalli. for Williams, they came through last year with starting him the entire year. He's strong enough to start again. I think he is a favorite but still has to earn it.

i assume the 5th slot will be an open competition, and that Corbin will be on a very very short leash this year.

technically, Barnes and Davies are minor league signings who I expect will have non-roster invites, but because they may play into the team that goes north out of the spring, I'm putting NRIs in the Roster thread for now.

I would think they continue to play the contract and not the player.  I expect him to get the ball every 5 days...

FIP was about a run higher than his ERA. So that probably scared teams away. Don’t recall ever seeing this guy although he has been around.  Oh well. Roll the dice.  No harm done.

Vernon Law was good with the Pirates. Looked it up and he is still alive at 93. Vernon’s son Vance played in MLB also.  Don’t think this guy is related.
