my preference is to trade Floro and 1 or two relievers this deadline and maybe Thomas along with Gallo, and then see if we can patch together a wild card contender in 2025. To do that, you do want to hope that you see enough to promote Crews, maybe Wood, maybe Lipscomb or Baker if you are disgusted with Garcia, and maybe House if Senzel shows you nothing or is traded.

Garcia is only on the team because he is a cheap, wam body.  Would like to see Baker get a shot...he looked very good when we saw him in a game in Norfolk...

You trade all the relievers that are worth a crap. If Gallo is still here at the deadline, deal him too (but he should be long gone by then).

Anyone who has value has to go.

Rizzo: “I just couldn’t find that starting pitcher that was going to impact us at this time, for not only the right amount of years — but the right salary at this time.”

I’m thinking I just might not be able to find much Nats-associated spending for the foreseeable future.

The Desert Sun lists the 5 best and 5 worst teams as we enter the new season.

5 Best

Braves
Dodgers
Orioles
Astros
Rangers

5 Worst

A's
Rockies
Angels
White Sox
Royals

There seems to be somebody missing from the 5 worst.

that sort of looks like 2023 records at the bottom. The Royals at least made an effort. I'd say we are behind them and the Angels.

TalkNats on the remaining free agents, and the jobs-squeeze. Is Victor Robles better than MAT? Why did Andrew Stevenson grab a job in Asia? How many o the best free agents are still waiting for a deal?

MAT will get a real offer. Here we are just killing time in CF waiting for Wood /Crews / Hassell. They'll play Young if Robles can't handle the job.

I sort of dream of thomas in cf and Gallo and Garrett in the corners, with Yepez showing enough to make the team at 1st. Actually, I thought of Meneses at 1st andDuvall or Soler dh before Soler signed

Thomas just cant seem to get good jumps and reads. Being in RF covers up for it a bit, with his arm helping a lot. But he just doesnt seem good enough to play CF

well this is a depressing read:

At least the "Notable Losses" mentioned in the article are absolutely not notable this year.

So were the Nats supposed to sign an outfielder to a multiyear contract before they know if Wood, Crews, Hassell III, Green and Lile are going to come through. They'll know a lot more after this season.

They could of signed a frontline pitcher and put Williams, Irvin or Corbin in the bullpen but all the pitchers signed for about 2 years which wouldn't of helped much this year. They could of signed Montgomery or Nola but they're asking too much.

They shouldn't of signed a third baseman before finding out about House or a first baseman because they need to find out about Meneses.

Bottom line this was just not the offseason to sign free agents. Next offseason they'll know more.

They could have signed Bellinger last years and then flipped him at the deadline for assets.  Or someone similar this year.  One or two year deals won’t block anyone.

If a 96 wRC+ is worth 4.5 million, then Robles is worth a 2.7 million gamble.
I guess not.
